Laughing again, Nanashi slid the sword back into the ragged belt on his waist. "Yes, is guud katana. <If you ignore the trouble it gives you>..." As if on cue, another bird dropping landed on his shoulder. "<Right...right... sorry>." He mumbled while casting his gaze skyward.
Walking again he got absorbed in his own thoughts, trying to remember what he was about to say before he nosedived into the ground. "Everything yuu do, can be lesson. Dat is why I learn every day." Seeming to consider something, he grew silent again.
"Maybe... I has idea." Looking at Sian, his eyes sparkled again. Whatever this idea was, it seemed to amuse him. "Yuu teach me ran... rangage? Rangenge? Ranguage? I teach yuu sword. Guud idea yes? We get wood sword in next town?"

Sian blinked in some surprise. Learn to use a sword and in exchange teach Nanashi how to better speak Common? It was a tempting offer. He'd wanted to learn proper sword use for a long time now. But from the sound of it, that would constitute them being together for a long while. He hesitated, weighing the benefits and risks against each other in his mind before deciding, giving it a good few minutes of thought.
"Okay," He said finally, grinning. "Why not? It's a fair exchange." He paused for a moment, thinking it over. "Only, we will have to find something else besides a wooden sword. Maybe a stick I can carve into one." He didn't have any money to buy a wooden sword. He could steal one, but he hated thievery - even though he'd done it before, it wasn't something he condoned.
"Or, if not, you could show me things that don't have to do with fighting until we can get one." He wasn't sure what, but there had to be something. He glanced over to the other as he spoke before again turning his gaze forward again, a childlike anticipation settling in his chest.

"No." Resolutely shaking his head, Nanashi looked at Sian and leveled a finger at him. "We need wood sword. Yuu want to learn Nippon sword fight, we do do Nippon way. <Student> must not kwestjon <teacher>. <Student> must trust <teacher>, arright?" He was still smiling, but something in his eyes simply told anyone looking that he would not relent on this matter.
"Now, rook." Stepping forward with his right leg, he bent his knees as his foot touched the ground until the right knee had made a 90 degree angle. His lower left leg was almost parallel to the ground and he remained perfectly balanced. In a single motion, he got back up and repeated the strange way of taking a step with the left foot forward.
Taking several steps that way, he turned around. "Okay, yuu, walk rike dat. Keep barance. Take <ten> steps, then yuu take <twenty> normal steps. Then <ten> like dies again. Yes?" To illustrate his point, he made gestures with his hands to indicate the numbers.
After having walked for a bit longer, he waited for Sian to catch up. A mischievous grin on his face as he knew just how much the other man's muscle would be aching from this. "I kjuurieus. This important, so gief guud answer yes? Why yuu wish to learn?"

Sian nodded, catching the look in Nanashi's eyes. It was a non - negotiable subject - they would get a wooden sword. He watched the demonstration on walking and followed the lead. He felt somewhat ridiculous, but he didn't question the reasoning behind it.
It wasn't very long before he could feel the faint ache in his muscles, and he knew he would be sore tomorrow. Or, more likely, later that night. He caught up to Nanashi after a few more minutes, standing straight again, offering a half grin at the question.
"Whips aren't very efficient weapons," He said. "They're good for surprise attacks, but not one- on- one combat." This wasn't entirely true - they weren't that much harder to use than a sword (though they do take different skill.) But you could only put so much momentum behind a whip, whereas a sword - that you could put your entire body weight behind. It seemed more solid. "So I figured I would like to learn to fight with a sword some day," He concluded, brushing hair out of his eyes.
Granted, there were other reasons - the whip was a weapon he could use. And in the occurrence that he lost control of himself to his worse half, so could it. But since it knew how to use one anyways the skill was heightened. As far as he knew, it had no clue how to properly use a sword - and therefore, if he knew how to use one and it didn't, if he ever lost control it wouldn't have as good of a chance of slaughtering the people around him. It would have the skills he had as a human and nothing more, which would be useless to a creature of his power - like a baby shaking around a rattle.

The way Nanashi eyed him was unsettling, as if he was looking directly into Sian's brain. "Yuu not lie... buut is not all truut ieder. Sword... is for protecting. Yuu understand?" Continuing to stare into Sian's eyes, it almost seemed like he was trying to divine the answer himself. "I dink... yuu wish to protect."
Spinning around, he started walking again. "Yuu do not want faito. Yuu do not want... inosend people die. Yuu have same eyes as I. Buut..." Turning around the look in his face was serious. "Yuu use sword for making trouble. I make yuu not able to use sword again. Sword, is for protecting."
While walking backwards, he eyed Sian to see his reaction to this. Getting caught behind a tree root, he nearly fell, but he managed to steady himself just in time. He looked around, as if expecting more trouble and sniffed twice before looking down. His shoulders slumped as he noticed the horse droppings he was standing in. "<Perfect...>."

Sian stopped walking when Nanashi started speaking. He listened with growing unease - it was almost like he could tell exactly what Sian was thinking. Am I that easy to read? He wondered to himself. He'd pretty much gotten it down just by looking at him.
"Of course I understand," He said, reaching out a hand to steady Nanashi when he stumbled but withdrawing it when he caught himself. "I don't want to hurt innocent people. It's just..." He dropped his gaze. It's just that sometimes it's out of my control. He finished the thought in his head, and he sighed.
"I'll do everything in my power to protect anyone who needs it. I would never knowingly hurt another person who didn't do something to deserve it." He said, again meeting Nanashi's eyes. There was some people - robbers, murderers, troublemakers, the like - the did require some force. But someone who hadn't done anything... "If you change your mind about teaching me, I understand, and I'll still teach you to speak common."
and even when he wasn't in control - by giving it less opportunity to kill, that was still protecting people...Right? It was one of the moral dilemmas that so often took over his mind. After all, it was his body - so was it his fault or not? He pushed these thoughts aside and awaited Nanashi's reply.

"No, I teach. I think yuu understand." With a reassuring smile, he stepped out of the crap and started walking again. "Come. We must find striem." Looking a for a stream, or lake, or whatever he could use to clean his shoe, he suddenly seemed to remember something as he looked at Sian again. "Oh... yuu allowed to walk normal again. Sorry." Finally stumbling upon a river, he took off the straw sandal and his sock and started washing them. It had been quite a walk by now, and his stomach started grumbling. He was getting . "Yuu know how to catch fiesh?" He asked his newly accepted pupil.

Sian followed again, thankfully at a normal walking pace and not the pattern he'd been told to do earlier. It took them a good few hours, but they eventually found a river that cut through the landscape. He nodded at Nanashi's question.
"Yes, I know how." He said. He'd done it often enough. Looking around, he spied a board - likely driftwood from some makeshift bridge that had collapsed nearby - and seized it. Then he waded knee - deep into the cold water, ignoring the sting of rocks on his feet. The current was strong, but not enough to knock him down.
He waited for a long time, still as stone, until fish began to gather around his legs, investigating this new addition to the river. Slowly he raised the board, and, quickly as he could, slapped the board on the water. In the same motion he plunged his hands into the rushing water and grabbed two of the stunned fish, tossing them onto the bank. He repeated this until they had a sufficient amount of fish and returned to the banks.
"This should be enough," He said, and set to work making a fire to cook them over.

"Hooo... <impressive>." Nanashi told the man with an appreciative look in his yes. After Sian had the fire started, he placed his sandal and sock near it so they could dry. With obvious impatience, he eyed the fish, waiting for them to finish roasting. Reaching out to grab one, an ember popped and landed on his hand.
Yelping, he covered the spot with his mouth and started blowing on it. "<Damn it, cut it out already! I know your listening! So please, just one night without incidents? It's all I ask.>" With a sigh, he shook his head before mumbling some more. "<Yeah... like that's going to happen...>"
Being even more careful then the first time, he grabbed one of the fish. Sketching a little bow, he spoke a single word in his native language before finally taking a bite. "How is legs Sian-san?" His tone was joking, obviously he knew the answer without even asking.

Sian sat as close to the fire as he could without looking completely off, scooting his feet, still chilled from the water, close to the embers. The heat washed over him, and he grinned, finally starting to truly warm up. With any luck, he wouldn't even be able to hear it tomorrow.
He frowned as Nanashi was burned. He seemed to be having not the best luck today. And he seemed to know it, judging by the flurry of speaking that followed the being burned.
Grateful to be sitting, and also reached for one of the fish. He split it open to let the steam loose and cool it faster so he wouldn't burn his mouth trying to eat and waited impatiently for it to cool enough, blowing gently on it to speed the process along.
He raised an eyebrow at his companion then, taking a bite of the fish. "Sore, as you well know," He said, laughing. "I knew they would be, but it's worse than I figured." He rubbed the muscled of his calves. "Maybe I should get into better shape." He grinned, knowing that the rest of training would be more tiring than just doing a walking exercise. "How is your hand?" He asked, referring to the spot the ember had burned.

He laughed at the younger man's answer. "When I was kid. <Father> made I run raps around house. If balance was not guud for single step, he wood add lap. I thought I die first time." His smile showed he was allowing the old memories to wash over him and he reveled in it. It had been a long time since he had thought about his father. Casting his gaze skywards he chanted a bit in his native language.
Eying Sian again he grinned. "Hurts." Sighing he eventually shrugged, unable to find the words he wanted. "Happens arr time." He had said much the same earlier, obviously all the bad luck he was having was nothing too surprising for the foreigner. "Can I ask? What is wip? Yuu set yuu could faito wit wip. Buut, what is wip?"

"That's a lot of running," He said, impressed. He wasn't much for running - he was fast, and could go for a while, but it wasn't something he found particularly enjoyable. He preferred climbing things. "I bet the cold water from the stream would make the burn feel better," He replied to the next statement. Ice was really best - well, herbs were, but neither of them seemed to have any - but it wasn't winter, and they weren't anywhere near ice. Thankfully.
Then Sian reached over with his right hand, grabbing the handle of the long rope of blades and unhitching the clasp with his thumb. "It's this," He said, drawing it out. It unfurled, laying in coils at his feet, the silver catching the firelight. He offered out the worn leather handle. "You can see why it would be hard to fight with in difficult situations," He said with a smirk. "Or to handle at all. I have more scars from the damn thing than I care to count." Learning had been a difficult process. "Most whips don't look like this - a lot of them are just leather," He explained, "But this one was modified."

Letting out a whistle, Nanashi looked impressed. Taking the handle, he stood up and carefully started swinging around with it to get a feel for the weapon. "How yuu call? Wip... whip... whip." Trying a few more times, he looked at Sian to see if he was pronouncing it correctly before finally settling with an almost perfect pronunciation.
Handing the weapon back, the swordsman smirked and shook his head. "Is going to be hard. Reelly hard. Whip faito very different. Buut, we sjall see yes?" Apparently, he was ever the optimist. Grabbing another fish, he wolfed it down as well.
With the sun setting, the first of the stars were starting to get visible. Pointing at one he eyed Sian with curiosity. "What yuu call those? And, what are dey to yuu?" Laying down, his head supported by his hand, he gazed at the stars. "Look so different here."

"Whip," Sian said, enunciating it clearly and nodding when he got it pretty much perfect. It didn't seem like it would take long for him to learn - he already picked up on a lot of things pretty easily. He took the whip back and deftly coiled at again, returning it to the thick leather tie that held it in place. He grabbed another fish, this one cooler, and set on it ravenously. After days without eating, he almost forgot he was . But now, after tasting food again, his stomach clenched painfully, demanding food. he was rather glad he'd caught more fish than he thought was necessary. Following Nanashi's gaze, he studied the stars that were just starting to emerge from behind the light of the sunset. "Stars," He answered, his eyes scanning the sky. "My brother always told me that, when someone dies, their soul goes into the sky as a star." A sort of melancholy crept into his voice, and he grew silent for a while, a bitter sort of look on his face. "What about you?" He said finally, turning his gaze to Nanashi.

Again, he tried to pronounce the word based on how Sian was saying it. "Sutahr...ssstahr. Hmm I like word. Stahr." Staring at them some more, he remained silent to allow Sian to have a moment of relative privacy.
Pulling his hat over his eyes, he once again searched for words. "In Nippon... onnor is everyding. When yuu die, yuu are... <judged>... Yuu lived guud laif wit lot onnor, soul is allowed rest with ansestor. Forever rest, pies and happy."
His voice gained a somber edge. "I wans proud warrior. Much onnor. Now I nanashi. No onnor. Is strange yes? I have onnor. I dink. I fair, onnest, polite. Buut people say nanashi has no onnor."
