Something that Vexxus did not anticipate happened. The demon spoke; and ordered the knights away. She was almost ready to be annoyed with this; but then it spoke to her.
“Forgive my earlier actions but I now know that I was foolish in doubting you.”
She stood tall, and lowered her sword to her side. She was debating with herself wheither she should free it, when she was reminded of Deraj's presence by a groan. Placing her sword in the sheath, she turned to him, removed the book, and pulled his body upright so he was in a sitting position. She addressed the demon while focused on Deraj's face, seeing if he was going to open his eyes. (Checking for a pulse would have been futile.)
"Give me a moment, and I will unbind you. I must make sure he is still in there, at least. While I'm waiting, you could do me favor of explaining exactly what just happned; and why they were after us."

The demon gave a polite laugh. “Of course. Those are reasonable enough requests. Though it may be a while yet with your friend. I heard you speaking as if you had experience with mirrors such as mine. Your friend there is finding himself worthy of a great deal of knowledge.”
Deraj’s armor suddenly glowed with a white heat. He opened his eyes and looked at Vexxus with a compassion the world rarely ever sees. However it was just for an instant. It stayed long enough to assure Vexxus that Deraj was still there before he was sucked back into whatever crucible of thought he had just managed to escape from.
The demon shook his head and softly spoke as if in assurance, “It shouldn’t be long at all now… As for those knights, it is simply absurd what some men think they must honor. There are certain rules that they dare not break such as the rules concerning hospitality. This is my mirror and they were guests that had outstayed their welcome. You and Deraj may stay as long as you wish. I’ve known you were coming for quite some time now so the monastery should be adequately stocked.”
The tremors stopped and his armor cooled. An expression of peace came across Deraj’s otherwise rigid face.
“Again, I am dreadfully sorry for attacking earlier. I had to make sure it was indeed the right revenant this time. There are more would be mages out there seeking perfection and immortality… … However, there is only one lucky enough to have a woman with your particular talents as a consort.” The demon winked at Vexxus but it wound up looking more ghastly than anything else.

“Of course. Those are reasonable enough requests. Though it may be a while yet with your friend. I heard you speaking as if you had experience with mirrors such as mine. Your friend there is finding himself worthy of a great deal of knowledge.” Vexxus relaxed, and her eyes reverted to their usual azure tones when Deraj opened his eyes for those few moments. When he returned to his state, she turned to face the demon as if to say "What now?" but he spoke.
“Itshouldn’t be long at all now… As for those knights, it is simply absurd what some men think they must honor. There are certain rules that they dare not break such as the rules concerning hospitality. This is my mirror and they were guests that had outstayed their welcome. You and Deraj may stay as long as you wish. I’ve known you were coming for quite some time now so the monastery should be adequately stocked.”
She flinched for a moment when he said Deraj, as she wasn't sure how he knew his name. For a moment she wondered if he knew hers as well. For all her knowledge, he could know everything about both of them. She glanced back at Deraj as she felt his armor cool, and saw that he was at peace. She turned back to the demon.
“Again, I am dreadfully sorry for attacking earlier. I had to make sure it was indeed the right revenant this time. There are more would be mages out there seeking perfection and immortality… … However, there is only one lucky enough to have a woman with your particular talents as a consort.”
She stood, closed her eyes and stretched out her hands towards the binds. Uttering something that was untranslatable, and almost impossible to pronounce, she made a motion as if she gave a great tug on them. They shattered, and decentegrated.
"There. I would apologize for restraining you, but I'm sure you fully understand why I had to do so. As for Deraj, and the knowledge pertaining to him, I thank you for allowing it to be passed on to him. I am afraid it is the only thing that will satisfy him," She turned to his ever still form with a look of sadness; then smiled slightly. "Hopefully the conquest for whatever this tells us he needs will satisfy him." She looked at the ground in thought, then back at the demon. "But then, what after?" There was both a fear and a questioning frustration in her expression. She looked back at the floor, realizing that perhaps she had brought too much of her own opinions into her jargon.

After released, the demon stretched to its full glory and let out a satisfied moan. It relaxed and changed form, its massive wings transforming into simple but durable brown robes. “This is much better.” There was a small explosion in his hand. The sulfurous smoke cleared to reveal a small hand mirror. The demon monk looked at himself with an incalculable sense of satisfaction. He threw the mirror over his shoulder and it disappeared into another cloud of smoke.
He earnestly listened to what she had to say and nodded sagely when appropriate. “If there is any who are worthy of it, it is he. I’m glad he got this far this time. He has you to thank for a great deal. I thank you too. I’m old and can only wait for so long. The knowledge in and of itself will not satisfy however. It will only awaken him to other vistas of reality that he had not yet begun to fathom.”
He laughed and looked down at Deraj as if he were looking on a child that reminded him of himself. “It makes me wonder though. Is there nothing you want or is it simply that Deraj has enough desire for the both of you? He has sought immortality through death out of a love of life but with you immortality almost seems as much of a curse as it is a blessing. Do you seek satisfaction, contentment … or could it be that you have somehow already found it?”

Vexxus continued looking at the floor. "I...I'm not sure as to what I seek. I know I am not satisfied, nor content. I have gained some, since I met him," She looked at Deraj. "I no longer have any fears in life. I no longer fear for my own safety; so I do not hold back any longer when I fight. I know that I myself could do much good for the world but....That is the thing. I do not want to place ties with the world; with the people. Perhaps that is why I travel with him; because, even though he may not always show affection for me as I do him, I know he will never perish. That alone sets my mind at some kind of ease."

The monk only responded with a respectful “hmmmmm.” There was a pause and then Deraj snapped bolt upright and looked on the world with a childlike wonder and a sagelike understanding. Tears began to form in his undead eyes when he looked at Vexxus. He smiled, placed his hands on either side of her head to pull her towards him and then passionately kissed her.
The monk let out another peal of laughter and then sent a series of thoughts at Vexxus. “I forgot to mention that he wouldn’t be able to actively remember the majority of this new knowledge. He can only hold and process so much at this level of awareness. It will be in there but safely tucked away. His subconscious will look out for him and bring him things when they become necessary. Forgive what he may do or say in these next few moments. They usually go mad from the revelations I give them so affection isn’t the worst thing that could happen… besides isn’t it what you wanted?”

Like a haunting, perfect dream, Deraj rose, began to cry, came forward and kissed her passionately. The rush of sudden movement and affection surprised Vexxus, but she relaxed and savored the moment.
She heard the thoughts the mage sent.
As she gazed deep into the moist eyes of her companion, she shook her head in astonishment; and sent a reply thought. "I suppose....I suppose it is...haha..."
She wondered what else would surface within these minutes of insanity.

The monk grinned at her reply. Deraj pulled away from Vexxus and was humbled at the beauty of everything. He gazed about the room with a newfound clarity. It was not long before his eyes met those of the monk. An identical grin appeared on both their faces and they let out a hearty laugh as if in understanding of an unspoken inside joke. Deraj walked over to the unnamed stranger. Deraj boldly thrust out his hand to offer a handshake. The monk looked down at his hand and shook it. He pulled Deraj toward himself and gave Deraj a hug. Deraj laughed. He pulled away and thanked the demon who only nodded in understanding and acceptance of the thanks.
Deraj turned on his heels and ran back to Vexxus. He was euphoric, drunk with the forbidden knowledge of cosmos. He took her up into his arms and just spun around in circles for the longest time before setting her back down and staring into the depths of her icy blue eyes.

Vexxus watched, and couldn't help but laugh at Deraj's newfound joy in life. When he spun her, she couldn't help but feel a bit dizzy, and almost said something, when he stopped and set her down. Still staring into his eyes, she spoke. "Are," She paused to chuckle. "Are you okay?" I wish he was this happy more often....He's usually always so stern and serious about everything...and now, that he isn't completely in control of his conscious actions, he can let go, and enjoy life...

Deraj saw the look of love in her eyes and she seemed to share some of his joy. She asked him if he was okay but he put one of his fingers up to her lips and then gently shushed her. He held her tightly knowing that the knights were destined or damned to separate them. Deraj tensed up and resolved that he would not allow this to happen. A new fire burned in his eyes.
He pulled away and walked in front of the massive stone dragon. He glanced over at the monk and again there appeared to be an understanding between the two.
Deraj nodded and bowed his head before the massive figure. His eyes rolled in the back of his head and he slowly bent his body upwards. What began as a whisper grew into a roar as a dark smoke poured forth from Deraj’s mouth. It swam around in the air and formed the shape of a dragon. It thrashed about the room, looking for a vessel to inhabit. Eventually it found the statue and went into it, granting it an unnatural life. It shook its wings and let out a roar that shook the magical chamber. Deraj raised his hands to the shadowy ceiling and an enormous mirror came into being. Deraj gave the stone dragon a nod and it soared up through the mirror and out of the chamber.
He rushed back over to Vexxus. “That should buy us some time but not much.”
The monk rushed over to the stone statue of the horse chanted some intelligible words in a guttural tongue . He made a series of horrible noises himself as he changed form to resemble the Sir Gareth. As he was in the process of mounting his steed he spoke, ”I’ll do what I can to help but if you are going you need to go now.”

She was not sure what exactly was happening, as Deraj shushed her, then held her tightly, she somehow knew that this very well could be the last time they would be able to be together. For reasons beyond her current knowledge, tears came to her eyes. Deraj tensed.
He pulled away, went to the dragon to awaken and release it to where Vexxus assumed the knights were. She understood more of what was happening. They...wanted to separate us...That's why...
“That should buy us some time but not much.” Deraj said.
The mage brought the horse to life; transformed, and mounted it.
”I’ll do what I can to help but if you are going you need to go now.”
"So this is it." Vexxus looked into Deraj's eyes. "Will I...Will I ever see you again?" She hated to ask, or even think about it, but she had to.

He thought of all of the trials and tribulations they would have to endure if he was to gain the crown and with it eternal youth. He had no need of food or sleep but he knew that Vexxus would suffer without those things. He imagined their journeys across that vast and bleak desert. He thought of the torment she might endure if she came with him. He shook those thoughts away. We will find a way.
Deraj laughed and grabbed her hand. “You are coming with me... aren’t you? That is what this is all for. If they didn’t try to take you before, I’m assuming that they didn’t realize that you were the dragon of their prophecy. Our nameless benefactor will no doubt cause a great deal of confusion among the ranks of those who wish to tear us apart. I’ve already conquered death; do you think a silly prophecy will stand in my way? We’re going to cheat fate!” With this final line, an ominous roar of the battle beyond began.

He grabbed her hand. “You are coming with me... aren’t you? That is what this is all for. If they didn’t try to take you before, I’m assuming that they didn’t realize that you were the dragon of their prophecy." Vexxus nodded, and made herself mentally ready. She could face anything. "Our nameless benefactor will no doubt cause a great deal of confusion among the ranks of those who wish to tear us apart. I’ve already conquered death; do you think a silly prophecy will stand in my way? We’re going to cheat fate!”
The mage made another great mirror, and they all leapt through it. Again the mirror felt as though it was enveloping Vexxus, but this time she did not fall. Instead they emerged from the other side of the mirror where they had entered. She had forgot about the change of physics, and her knees almost gave way. She stumbled forward slightly, and regained her composure quickly. The group of three, one on a horse, surveyed the conflict before them.
The knights were struggling with the dragon and one of them attempted to bind one of it's legs with a very large rope; but was thwarted by a great blow of the dragon's tail.
Vexxus smiled, drew her blade, then whispered, as if they were somehow in hiding. "...Shall we?"

Vexxus whispered as if they were in hiding but as things were, the knights were too busy with the dragon to take notice of them. She drew her blade and was obviously eager for battle. Deraj didn’t want to risk being separated from Vexxus but was too confident of their upper hand in the situation to back down now. As Deraj was about to channel energy unto himself, the mounted mage whispered, ”This was all created so that you two could escape together. If you stay and fight…”

”This was all crea-" Before the mage could finish his statement, Vexxus rushed in. Lunging at the knight nearest her, she struck the back of his armor sharply with the broad side of her sword. Not expecting this, he fell. Vexxus debated decapitating him, but decided instead to bind him using magic. She stretched her hand out and bound only his arms and legs to the ground with dark tethers.
