Nodding in thanks, the girl, whose name was Ariana, sat down and ordered herself something to eat. However, she didn't have much time to eat. For, not soon after her food came, horrible things began to happen.
First off, a group of guards came into the tavern. Normally, this wouldn't faze her. However, their eyes seemed to be looking for someone. Ariana knew enough about archery and long range attacks to know when someone was tracking...and it was obvious that these thugs were doing just that. The remainder of the conversation seemed to drown out as she watched them walk over to a man at the bar. With horror stuck eyes, she watched them brutally attack him. After, they took him away.
Normally, Ariana didn't worry about other people. However, the guards had to have attacked that gnome man for a reason. If she could help him...he might return the favor. If not...it was just as easy to turn him in again and pretend it never happened.
Throwing some coins on the table (it was a little too much for the meal, but Ariana still hadn't grasped the money system here), she tossed her hood over her head and prepared to depart. However, before she got a chance, she was blinded by a smoke screen. She knew magic was the only way something like that could've happened so suddenly. There were some people who could do magic like that in her land. But it was never something she chose to learn. She inhaled some of the smoke, forcing her to cough and lose sight of the action.
Swearing, she brushed some smoke out of her eyes, coughed a little more, and looked around. The gnome, the guards, and one of the girls were gone. She swore louder. But, there was nothing she could do. Undoing her hood again, she retired back to her chair and continued to eat.
If I don't find people soon...my whole country will perish!
