Name: Pruvan
Age: Unknown
Race: Shade
Gender: Presumably male
Color: 112519
Physical Appearance:
Varies. Since shades are creatures of shadow they can take many forms, but they can't make any physical contact whatsoever. His only distinguishable features are his glowing green eyes and his tendency to change shapes a lot.
History:
Very little is actually known of Shades. Why they exist, who they are or once were, how one becomes a Shade... This is mostly because Shades themselves often don't know the answer to those questions either. Some people think that when a person dies with unfinished business in this world their spirit refuses to cross over to the next realm and stays behind as a shadow of their former selves. Some think Shades appear when someone dies with great sorrow in his heart. Others believe Shades are just another creation by some rogue wizard who got bored and decided to summon them from some otherworldly plane of existence.
Though some research was put into these strange, dark creatures by scholars in the past, most people nowadays don't even know they exist. And those that do often don't care. Since there are no recordings of Shades ever being used for battle or magical purposes, they are considered useless by many. Especially since it's much easier to summon lesser Demons than it is to entice a Shade. Or even find one for that matter.
The amount of Shades in our world remains an absolute mystery to date, since they have the unfortunate habit of only showing themselves when they feel like it. They have the power to remain invisible to the naked eye, often by hiding in the shadows or different layers of reality. Though the magically gifted have been known to sense when shades are around, pinpointing their exact location and dispelling their veil can only be accomplished through the use of fairly powerful magic. If one were to seek a Shade, the best place to start would be near recently deceased bodies. Shades are known to be attracted by, what they describe as, the scent of death. It is even said that Shades have the ability to sense death beforehand. Because of this, the presence of Shades is often considered a bad omen. An omen of death. Whether or not Shades feed off of or draw energy from the deceased is unknown. Shades also have the peculiar ability to see different versions of reality. Some Shades can even see the past, present and future at the same time.
Pruvan is a shade that spends most of his time thinking, about anything that comes to mind or happens to be taking place around him, and observing. He has no memory of who he once was in life, or how he became a Shade. Much like many others of his kind. All he remembered from his former existence when he first woke a Shade was one word: Pruvan. It was the only remaining piece of his former self. He wasn't even sure if it used to be his name or someone else's, or if it was even a name for that matter. For all he knew it could've been another word for Dwarven cheese in some ancient language that died out eons ago. But since it was all he had left, he decided to name himself after this one word. That way he ensured he would never forget it. Unfortunately, as the years passed by he eventually forgot where his name came from as well, or that it was ever part of his former existence, or that he ever even had a former existence. All he remembers today is that his name is Pruvan, and that he's a Shade. And for as far as he knows, that's how it always has been.
Personality:
Though his dark and frightening appearance has scared many a person off, Pruvan actually has a calm and neutral disposition. He picks no sides because he doesn't know whose side he's on anyway. Because of this, he'll never try to hurt anyone without being provoked first. And even if he wanted to hurt somebody, he wouldn't know how. He enjoys having conversations with races of all kinds, and finding out about their thoughts and perspectives on all kinds of random subjects. The only problem is that most races don't enjoy doing this, let alone with a Shade.
While most Shades usually refrain from making contact with other beings, Pruvan actually has a rather curious nature and will show himself to others way more often. His contact with so many different species, combined with his strange powers as a Shade, explain his high intelligence and broad sense of the world around him. He does, however, have the annoying habit of stalking people he finds interesting or amusing.
Powers:
Shapeshifting
Immunity to physical damage
Can survive wherever there are shadows
Invisibility
Sensing the recently deceased and soon to die
Leeching the lifeforce out of living beings (only lethal to the very smallest of creatures, hardly noticeable by others)
Seeing flashes of the past and future
Can enter a person's mind, but only if the host is willing
Can peer into people's dreams while they sleep
Weaknesses:
Overexposure to light can cause a Shade to dissipate
Powerful spells are also known to harm Shades, but Light magic is way more effective and thus preferred
No real means of attack
Age: Unknown
Race: Shade
Gender: Presumably male
Color: 112519
