Name:
Mavichronolus (Mav for short)
Age:
142
Race:
Human/Clockwork Golem
Appearance:
Mav is roughly 6 feet tall and extremely skinny. He is almost never without his heavy cloak which hides all but his hands and face from onlookers. He is seemingly human in appearance until he removes the cloak. Underneath he is a collection of gears, mechanisms, and decaying organs (which are preserved in magically strengthened glass containers connected to his machinery). The organs preserved in these containers are all clearly dying and only the most vital remain (heart, lungs, ect...) along with some muscle tissue on his arms and legs. A low whirring sound is continuously emitted from his chest due to multiple spinning clock like gears. His movements are smooth like humans but close inspection would reveal a slightly robotic style of motion. his machinery is made mostly of copper and iron.
Personality:
Mav is reserved most of the time but has a weird sense of humor which occasionally shines through his calm exterior. He tends to avoid conflict because of his weak body but will rush headlong into battle if provoked to much. Mav is above all else a scholar and adors books, manuscripts, tomes, scrolls and any type of knowledge he can get his hands on. He prefers books on enchantment (seeing as it's his specialty) but can be absorbed in any document for hours on end. He also has a photographic memory which allows him to immediately recall things he has seen or read. Unfortunately, due to his accident, he has developed a mild form of insanity that takes the form of a second voice in his mind which he has named the "Mad Man". This alter ego is heartless and cruel, but usually only able to whisper into Mav's thoughts at most but will occasionally attempt to influence his will.
History:
As a child Mavichronolus was apprenticed to a master clock-smith. Over the course of almost 2 decades Mav learned the craft and soon surpassed his masters abilities. On his masters passing he was given a single key which a note that said "Behind the bookcase". Upon moving the bookcase a door with a enormous padlock was revealed and Mav quickly unlocked it. Inside was an enormous library of books and tomes, all of which were on the subject of enchanting. After years of study in this library Mav soon gained enough knowledge to enchant his creations and began doing experiments on his clockwork. He soon found that he had a natural ability with enchantment and decided to attempt to put a single spell inside of a large pocket watch which could then be released on the users command. After weeks of preparation he finally succeeded in finding a suitable spell and attempted the procedure. After successfully trapping the spell inside of a small crystal inside the watch he sat back and admired his work. Suddenly the watch began to vibrate and shake violently and at that moment Mav ran through every calculation in his head. He realized, to his horror, that the crystal he used had been way to small to contain the spell.....then the watch exploded. The force of the spell knocked him back and he was knocked unconscious. He woke up some time later and examined himself for injury. There was nothing apparent, but some peculiar welts had started to appear all over his body. The next day, on his waking, he found giant bruises on his arms and legs. He was weak and barely able to stand but he somehow made it to a cleric who told him he had contracted a disease called "Mana Poisoning". While the cleric was able to temporarily stop the spread of the sickness he informed Mav that he would most likely die within 6 months. Unable to accept this Mav rushed to the secret library and found an ancient manuscript which outlined a complicated procedure which literally replaced your dead or dying body parts with clock like replicas that react like the original appendage. He prepared for the surgery and had all the materials needed in 2 months. He called on the cleric one more time and requested that, during the surgery, the cleric take magically augmented glass containers and preserve his most vital organs which he could not replace. The cleric did the best he could and the result was that, inside the containers, the disease was almost completely halted. After the surgery Mav woke up and was amazed at his own body. He was now more machine than human with gears whirring around inside his chest. Mav, determined to use his new body for the pursuit of knowledge, set out on a trip that would take him all over the world. He brought only his heavy cloak, his journal with all his most important notes and a large staff which he had grown quite proficient with. He soon realized that he did not need to eat, and that his body never really tired. He was also startled to find out that he sunk rather quickly in water. However, the most important thing he learned was that his staff was sorry protection in the wilds. After much deliberation he decided to attempt the same procedure he used with the clock on himself as an added measure of defense. He double and triple checked his calculations and the end result was a large red crystal in the palm of his right hand. He could now, with a thought, use the spell trapped in the gem once and could also refill the gem with another spell. The only limitation it seemed, was that the crystal would only accept a spell of the "Evocation" school of magic from which the original spell (a simple ball of fire) had originated. With his newfound ability Mav traveled the plane in search of knowledge of all types and eventually collected 8 gems, each housing a specific school of magic.
Powers/Abilities: Mav does not need to sleep and has a photographic memory. He can also make Clockwork creations, which can temporarily do his bidding. If any of his body parts housing one of the 8 gems is removed, he can still activate its power, although the spell generally explodes out of the gem since it is not being directed.
Mav has 8 gems throughout his body which can all store a one spell of their respective school of magic, they are as follows (current spell in the gem is in parentheses):
Right palm: Evocation (Lightning)
Right forearm: Transmutation (Stone to Flesh)
Left palm: Necromancy (Vampiric Touch)
Left forearm: Enchantment (Charm)
Right foot: Conjuration (Major Creation)
Left foot: Abjuration (Repulsion)
Head: Divination (True Seeing)
Chest: Illusion (Project Image)
Mav must spend 4-8 hours studying a spell in order to recharge a gem.
Weaknesses:
Mav has a somewhat fragile body but can usually reassemble himself if given the tools. His main weak points are his remaining organs preserved in the clerical containers. While the glass is magically enhanced and strengthened it is not unbreakable, and if his organs should ever be removed from the protection of the spell (aka glass breaks) then the disease will claim his life without immediate attention from a cleric. Mav is unable to swim and is on the verge of being obsessed with his quest for knowledge. His alter ego the "Mad Man" cause his mind to be unstable and can interfere with him at anytime.
