Name: Ravenissa (Nissa)
Race: Human/Shadow Runner
Gender: Female
Age: Seventeen
Height: 5'3
Weight: 132
Hair Color: Ebony
Eye Color: Honey-gold
Skin: Pale
Place of Birth: Unknown
Religion/Philosophy: Goddess Worship/Multiple Deities
Companions: She has three companions, all a type of shadowy creature, often seen as demons, although they are not demonic in any form. The first is female, appearing as an ebony tigress bearing the name Tora. The second and third are both male and more canine, wolf-like in appearance, precisely the same color as Tora. The first is named Taigas, the second is Devion. The creatures can only come out during the hours of darkness, and seem to appear out of shadow. All three are very protective of her, though Nissa seems to have the strongest bond with Tora. Occasionally she’ll steal a horse, but she never keeps it for long.
Physical Appearance: Ebony hair reaches Ravenissa’s waist, and eyes the precise shade of golden-brown honey look out from a pale face. She is athletically slim, slight of build and easily misjudged in her fighting capabilities. When angered, her eyes darken with her level of rage, ending with dark black when she is angriest. Conversely, her eyes are lighter when she is happier. She is often wearing either a floor-length black dress or a pair of leather leggings with a doeskin top.
Personality: Ravenissa is very headstrong, with a quiet, defiant nature. She does not like being told what to do, and tends to do the opposite of what she is told. She is quiet most of the time, choosing instead to listen and gather whatever information she can, although at times she can be extremely outspoken. She is naturally suspicious and wary of any strangers, but she is extremely protective and loyal to those few that she may come to trust and love. She doesn’t like to fight, but she also does not like to back down from a challenge. When feeling bored or mischievous, she enjoys causing small scenes of chaos and confusing people. She has an affinity for animals, and can’t stand to see them mistreated. If she can’t buy or make what she needs, she is not against or above stealing and lying.
Likes: Nighttime, forests, the moon, the sound of wind through pine trees, the smell of burning cedar or pine, peaches, candles, chocolate
Dislikes: Extremely small spaces, destruction, cruelty, pineapple, crawling things, being proven wrong, being held back/restrained, being told what to do/ordered around, great heights
Strengths: Her companions protect her very efficiently, and she is good with a blade and hand-to-hand fighting, less skilled with a bow and arrow, but she can at least bring home dinner.
Weaknesses: Her companions can only come out during the hours of darkness. She prefers not to fight, she is not as strong as she is fast, and she gets dizzy/nauseous when at a great height (cliff edge, etc.). She is sometimes overtaken by a strong rage, something that blackens her eyes and robs her of thought. It does not, however, increase strength or speed.
History: Nissa lived a relatively happy, peaceful life on a ranch with her large family, including herself, her mother and father, baby sister, and two older brothers. They had a few horses, some beef cattle, a few chickens and two dairy cows. They grew corn, as well as wheat and some vegetables. Most of it they would sell at nearby towns.
Their life was good, until a roving band of slavers found them. Her father was beaten to death, and her mother was forced to watch her baby be killed before enduring a brutal raping and death. Nissa was out of earshot of the house, out on her daily ride. When she saw the smoke from the burning buildings she rushed home, but there was nothing left. Her brothers were beaten into submission and tied hand and foot. She was overtaken by rage, and stupidly tried to avenge her losses.
She managed to kill three of the slavers before they tied her hand and foot as well. The only reason why Nissa was not raped along the journey was because virgins fetch a higher price, though the men were vulnerable to their bodies, frequently pursuing less violent physical assaults. She never made it to their destination, and so never knew where that was.
She was left at a camp with a few other prisoners, guarded by only three men, one of them a little slow in the head. Aided by one of the guards and her shadowy protectors, Nissa managed an escape. That was at the tender age of 13.
She has been traveling since then, avoiding most roads and populated areas. But four years have allowed her to become more willing to tour cities and larger villages, and to become adept at escape and avoidance.
