Note, she'll be replacing Oswin.
Name: Erin
Age: 27
Race: Human
Description
A pair of piercing, grey eyes, that always look like they can see everything, a cute, little button nose and full lips complete her slightly freckled face. Despite her often stern look, she looks youthful and when she smiles her face lights up as her eyes sparkle. This all stands in rather stark contrast to the common image of Rangers.
Graced with a slender and athletic body, Erin stands at a mere 5.4 feet. Her fiery, red hair is kept short (out of fear it might get in the way otherwise), but is also the only thing she can be girly about. She is slightly tanned and her face has a weathered look due to her outdoor life style.
Her Ranger uniform, a dark, green and brown tunic and pants with a light leather jerking for protection, does a good job at masking her curvaceous, but not overly so, form. If she were to wear a dress or other clothing to accentuate her shape, most people would probably find her quite good looking.
Her boots are sturdy and heavy, to help endure nature’s worst. And, of course, she always wears the cowled ranger cloak. This long cloak is of a mottled green color and has long since been the most visual mark of a ranger and masks her figure even further.
On her back, she carries a quiver of arrows and her longbow, the traditional weapon of the Ranger Corps. Strapped to her belt are a throwing knife and a dagger for those cases when close combat is unavoidable.
Personality
She has an air of authority and confidence, further accented by her calm demeanor and the laid back, casual approach of someone that knows exactly what she is capable of without flaunting it.
Despite this however, most commoners fear her due to the superstitious fear most people have of Rangers as they claim Rangers know and use evil magic. Erin, of course, neither confirms nor denies such claims. More often than not, it pays to have people be frightened at the thought of facing a ranger.
She however, cannot stand it when being treated like a damsel in distress. She is a Ranger and has trained many years to earn the right to join the elusive Ranger Corps. Many have found themselves on the wrong end of her fist in an attempt to set them straight.
Biography
Erin has no memory of who her parents are, or even where she was born. No, her earliest memory is one of her playing with the other wards taken in by the Baron of Aldgate. These orphans were raised and fed by the palace staff merely out of the kindness in his heart.
Even when she was little however, Erin cared little for dolls and other girly stuff. She made it clear to all who would listen that she would become a great warrior one day. Being a girl, and a tender and frail looking one at that, the others would ridicule her for this.
Still, she refused to give up and refused to do "girly" stuff, instead preferring to climb trees, trying to eavesdrop on the adults and of course, attempting to steal sweets and pastries from the castle's kitchen.
Still, despite all her courage and bravado, she too was nervous beyond belief when the Choosing Day came. For all the wards that turned 16 in that year, the Choosing Day was the most important day of the year. On that day, they would be brought to the Baron's office and were giving the chance to appeal to any of the craft masters that had showed up.
When it was her turn, Erin turned to Phelan, the castle's sword master, and made her plea. Phelan however, refused. She was a girl, and a frail one at that. She would never make it according to him. Her dream shattered, she looked at the other craft masters.
Since she had been the last however, all the available positions had been filled already, save one. The chamberlain was willing to take her in to train her to be a maid at the castle. For many, this would probably sound like a dream. To Erin however, it sounded like a nightmare.
It was at that precise moment, when her dreams and hopes were crumbling, that Tristam, a member of the Ranger Corps, stepped out of the shadows, revealing he had been watching the entire time. Tristam had always been good friends with the Baron and visited the castle often.
It was during these visits, he told them, that he had at one point taken notice of Erin. Over the years, he had observed her carefully and believed she had what it took to become a ranger. Erin was shocked at this news.
Rangers were secretive and enigmatic people and many believed they dabbled in the dark arts. Tristam's sudden appearance from the shadows only seemed to reinforce that image and only served to make her even more hesitant. Still... the only other option was becoming a maid.
That mere thought filled her with such disgust, that she agreed with Tristams proposal despite her reservations. She was given one day to pack her belongings before leaving the castle with Tristam to start her training.
Lasting for five years, it was an excruciating time as Tristam did not let her off easy. Every day, she trained in the arts of archery and unseen movement. Her days lasting from early dawn until well after the sun had set.
Despite all this, she found it exhilarating. Tristam treated her like he would any other apprentice and she quickly learned that complaining and trying to use her gender as an excuse would only serve to make him come up with even harder tasks and trials.
As he told her, if she managed to pass the final tests, she would be a figure of authority, respect and fear. And she would have to travel the land on her own, tracking down and putting to rest any ill doings towards the inhabitants. Any enemy she would face, would not go easy on her just for being a girl and thus, neither would he.
During her fifth year as an apprentice, she took the trials during the Gathering, a bi-annual event where all the Rangers would gather to catch up on recent events. Being the only girl with the corps, her progress was watched carefully but she passed with flying colors, earning her place in the Corps and became a full fledged Ranger.
As a ranger, she travelled all over Valear, stopping bandits, settling disputes and played an instrumental role in taking down a dangerous, religious cult. When asked if she ever regretted joining, she will reply that it was not the dream she once had, but deep down, she now knows this is what she was meant to do and will continue to protect the land and it's people from the shadows.
Skills
Unlike what most people think, rangers do not use magic in any way. All of their skills come from years of hard, sometimes of grueling, training. They are trained to move without ever being spotted by using their surroundings and their camouflage cloaks as well as knowledge about how humans think and act.
The same goes for their almost legendary prowess with their longbows. There is nothing magical about their ability to rapidly fire of arrow after arrow at an almost inhuman speed with tremendous accuracy and everyone could do it. Provided they would be willing to train for years and years so that shooting becomes a matter of instinct.
