Background:
Arius's mother died during childbirth, leaving the newborn baby and her previous two children to be taken in by the church. His eldest brother was too old to be trained and was eventually adopted by a farmer who was unable to have a son, and his older sister was defiant and reckless. Whatever happened to this girl, Arius will not talk about.
Arius, though was raised and taught to be an obedient Priest until it was discovered he had an affinity for the sword. Believing this must be a gift from the Creators, Arius was promptly set on a new path to become a Church Guardian. His training had set him into the path of danger many times, whether it be fighting in defense of the helpless, the church, or going on Crusade, but he always seemed to return unscathed. He says it is the will of the Gods that he survived, as many of his wounds and scars have been miraculously healed when fighting for Their cause.
When Arius was 22, the church Priest, believing it a sin for a man who has not sworn celibacy as a Priest, to remain single, had Arius married to another Church Guardian. The two were hardly happy in the marriage but were not unhappy either, merely seeming to tolerate what the Priest had given them.
Arius's wife died 2 years ago during the last Crusade and he has remained single and devoted only to the Gods ever since.
Personality: Arius has an almost single-minded devotion to the Creators and the church. Very little he does is for his own enjoyment or gain. Even his marriage was at the behest of the church rather than for love or any other personal gain.
Likes: Arius has a love of all animals, but primarily dogs. He admires their loyalty and devotion to their masters. However he does not own a dog because of the constant traveling he must do, he feels it would be unfair to the dog. He won't admit it, but he also fears losing that companionship, which is also why he mostly travels alone. Prayer, though nearly being a requirement of his upbringing, is not just a chore for Arius. It is a connection to the Gods, an affirmation that he is both alive and following the proper path. He prays at least once a day.
Dislikes: Sorcery. Arius believes only the Gods should have the power to grant magic to a person and that sorcery, especially when used for evil purposes, is either entirely unnatural or an abomination of what the Gods granted them.
