The sun shone high in the sky, beating down relentlessly upon the flat dry landscape. A single figure plodded across the cracked ground, a black and silver axe hanging from his belt, red hair glistening from sweat. A note was held in his hand, and he was sure others held a similar note.
Dear potential competitor- We have sent this note to you in the hopes that you will consider the proposition made in this letter. There is a competition, or rather, a tournament held in the Dermun Desert. The winner shall receive something they desire. Be it wealth, fame, power, restoration or dominion. However, the stakes are high, as no reward of this magnitude can simply be given, it must be earned. To participate in the competition all you must do is go to the desert and locate the northeastern spire field within the next week. Go to the tallest spire. Your competition will begin there.
Sincerely -Chess
The red-haired being smiled at reading the note again. He was eager to fight and the spires were in sight already. He pulled a small lizard from a pouch at his side, it was already dead, and started to consume it while he paused to admire the landscape and the field of stone spikes and pillars rising from the barren earth.
The being half wished he could fly so that he could see the spectacular sight from a birds-eye view. The largest spire was obvious enough to see. It's top must have been at least a mile higher than the rest of the other sharp pyramids dotting it's base. He started to walk in that direction, pondering what circumstances of nature would create such things, and who he might meet.

James sat atop the large spire as he had been instructed. As far as he could tell he saw nobody but himself. He seemed very disappointed. He once again moved his long black hair from his face to read the note once more. His heart leapt at the thought of reward. If whatever being was strong enough to create such a spire, perhaps he could also be rid of his affliction. Only time would tell. He checked his black leather body armor for any nicks or weaknesses, and made sure his trusty sword was at his side. He once again rose and peeked over the side of the spiral- He had done this same ritual time and time again with no difference. But this time He saw a figure out across the sands. His eyes widened and a thingyy smile grew across his lips. "It's about damn time!" He continued to watch the figure waiting impatiently for what was to come.
