The howling desert winds blinded Tolnen, throwing sand and dirt into his line of vision. The desert storm proved too much for Tolnen, throwing him around like a doll. He knew he had to find shelter soon or he would not survive much longer. Luckily, a small outcropping of rock was just ahead of him. It would provide a shelter from the storm. He hurried over and jumped inside.
Tolnen began coughing violently, spitting up the sand he had inhaled. Tolnen plopped to the ground and leaned his head against a rock. The rock was strangely cool and smooth. He turned his head to the rock to find that it wasn’t a rock, it was a crystal! He jumped to his feet and stared in amazement at the large crystal. It seemed so old to Tolnen, losing most of its sheen and color. Tolnen took a closer look at the crystal to examine it. A look of horror fell over his face. A young boy was encased in the crystal. Tolnen was in disbelief. How did a boy end up inside a crystal? His mind raced with ideas, but he knew what he had to do. He needed to get the boy out. He pulled at the stone, trying to yank it free of the rocks, but it would not budge. Tolnen searched the area for something to break the crystal with. A large stone club seemed to be good. He pounded away at the stone again and again, hoping that there was some way the boy was still alive. With each slam, more and more cracks appeared on the crystal . Finally, the crystal began chipping away. One final hit would break the crystal. Tolnen used every ounce of strength he had and threw it into the club. It smashed the crystal into pieces.
The young boy inside the crystal fell to the ground, silent and unmoving. Tolnen checked for a pulse, praying to every god he could think of that the boy was alive. To his amazement, a faint pulse flowed through the boy. Tolnen retrieved a blanket from his bag and wrapped it around the boy. Now only time would tell if the boy would make it.
