Vain looked around the bustling town. The sun beat its scorching rays onto the pavement. Being a 102 year old was old to humans, but to her race, 102 was like an 18 year old child to a 50 year old adult human. She wrinkled her nose as humans brushed by her. She could smell each and everyone of them. She could hear their hearts beating and their breathes as they breathed the stinking air around them. Execpt she wasn't there for a quick meal. No. She was here for something else. Well, actually, SOMEONE else. Even though she was an assassin, she didn't get paid to kill them. Simply capture and deliver on a silver platter. Catching up to them had been a pain. They always seemed to be one step ahead of her. She had to be careful here. She looked all around her, always expecting an ambush or a trap. Hiding spies in plain sight within the humans was always a favorite tatic of hide and go seek with humans, it seemed. She looked for anyone that could be a threat...

Naiya loved the bustle of activity that surrounded her within the human towns. The smells of freshly cooked foods in the open stalls, the children running around laughing, people smiling and conversing with those they hadn't seen in a while. There were the bad sides of course, but they weren't worth giving a thought to. She sat on her nimble haunches as the humans walked past, unaware they were being watched from somewhere so close. Her long ears twitched, rotating around as she took in all the sounds of the town. She used them as a cover from whoever had been following her. Some human had been stalking her like a prey whilst she had been in her human form, so she decided to head for the nearest town and revert to her spirit form to get a glimpse at her stalker, and maybe guess why they were doing it. Not many knew of her dismal existence, but she was sure a few believed in the legends enough to try and catch her out. She was certain they could fetch a pretty penny if she sold at an auction. But there was a reason why no one had caught her yet...
Looking through the crowd as she sat at the edge of the bustle of people, she noticed something out of the ordinary. A female, though it wasn't necessarily her appearance that made Naiya cautious. She was obviously looking for someone, or looking out for them.It was hard for her to tell if she was on the run or on the hunt, so she stayed cautious and made sure to follow her between the throng of people. She wasn't too cautious however, as normal humans could not see her in this form.
Was this the person that had been after her? If so, why? She didn't look like a mythical trader...

Thankfully, during the day, Vain looked just like an ordinary human. But at night...At night she was a true . She ducked into the crowd. She had the sudden feeling that she was being fallowed. Sadly though, her black clothes, hair, and even her black nails stuck out like a sore thumb. Not that it mattered. Not that she wasn't human. The humans didn't even bother to look in her direction. Vain glanced behind her, and then decided to move at blurring speeds, faster then the normal sight could see. Although she couldn't move so fast so long during the day. If it were night, well, if it were night, she could pracically do anything. Vain's target, they had told her, was human. Or at least it had a human form. They didn't tell her what to look for, didn't give her a photograph. She suspected they were playing a game with her, to see if she would get captured, what she would do then. She would play along with their game, but she wouldn't fallow by their rules. At least not all of them.

Naiya almost lost sight of the female when she suddenly ran off at a frightening speed. She was certain the humans wouldn't even notice her she was going that fast, and even Naiya was having a hard time keeping up. She sure couldn't match her speed, but she did see the odd flash of her flesh, and her keen nose helped keep her in track. Just what was she? Never had she seen a human run fast enough to go unoticed by the others. She kept a steady pace, not even bothering to try and run as fast as she had, prefering to trust her nose to follow the unique scent surrounding this strange being.
She was sure she hadn't been seen - it would be impossible for any ordinary human. But then again, after this display of inhuman speed, maybe she had been seen after all? It would mean she wasn't a human, and that made most sense. Whatever she was, the fact that she was running only made Naiya more curious about her. She followed her at a quick, but easy pace, head low and ears raised high as the scent became stronger and she knew she was getting closer. When she was close enough to be just out of view, she reverted back to her human form as she approached the stranger.

Vain rounded a corner and stopped, seeing that it was an alleyway. Crap. She whirled around, but saw that someone was blocking her way out. A flicker of irritation ran through Vain. She stared at them, her expression blank. The person took a step towards her, and her hand instantly went to her pure silver dagger that she kept sheathed at her belt. It was like two dogs meeting for the first time, trying to decide whether they were a danger and they need to attack, or whether they could be friends.

Naiya was shocked at herself for coming to this - cornering someone she didn't even know, and someone who could just be a scared human. No, she had seen that unatural speed; this woman was far from human. Her eyes wandered over the strange female as she took as step forward, stopping as she noticed her draw a blade. She lowered her body slightly, bending her knees slightly and holding her arms out to create a stronger stance. She had no weapons other than her magic, and she really didn't want to hold a ball of lightning in her hand incase the stranger took it as a threat.
"Who, and what are you?" She said in her velvetine voice, giving no hint of a threat, but keeping it steady and strong to show no weakness. She didn't want to fight. If this woman was the one who had been stalking her earlier, there had to be a reason. And why had she run from her just?

Vain titled her head to the side and her black hair vailed part of her face, hiding it from view. The hilt of her silver dagger was a comfert in her hands. She wouldn't attack unless this stranger did. As Vain looked at the person standing before her, Vain straightened up. This was the person she was supposed to find and capture. Vain frowned. Capturing people wasn't exactly her specialty. If they wanted to hire her for an assassination, that would have been a different story. Vain grew instantly bored and sheathed her black and leaned against the brick alley wall, crossing her arms over her chest. "My name is Vain. And no, I'm not human. Are you human?"

Naiya was a little confused when Vain suddenly became relaxed enough to lean on the wall without a weapon. Naiya could still attack at any moment, escpecially now that she knew she wasn't human. But she did however relax as well, crossing her arms and putting most of her weight on one foot. She was still cautious, but didn't want to seem edgy.
"They call me Naiya, though who knows why..." She half joked, hoping she'd help loosen the atmosphere. She still didn't know just what Vain was, nor did she knew her intentions. "I am only human by form, and it is only one of many." She wouldn't admit to what she actually was till she knew if her intentions were good - if she heard that she was a kitsune, she might be tempted to capture Naiya for herself.

Vain lost all interest in the girl when she said her name. They would be angry at her for not capturing the girl, but Vain didn't care. Traveling with hostages got old, and Vain would have just ended up killing the hosatage probably. Vain decided she would go after the men who had hired her instead. She didn't bother telling the girl anything. She wasn't really in the mood for conversing with anyone. Vain just watched the girl. She knew she could be dangerous, but if the girl really wanted to try and kill Vain, then she would have done it a long time ago. It was quickly getting dark outside, and then Vain would be a true then. Suddenly Vain didn't care anymore of what the girl thought. The men who had hired her to capture this girl needed to know that Vain was dangerous and couldn't be controlled by anyone, especially not a human. Vain looked up at one of the buildings and jumped, landing neatly on the roof. Vain glared down at the girl in annoyance and then took off, bounding on the rooftops like a squirrel jumping from tree to tree.
