Name: Cryotius
Age: Incalculable
Race: Ice Giant
Physical Description:
Height: Although his ability as a shape-shifter allows him to vary his height, he prefers to maintain a size of between 7 and 12 feet tall to fit in with his company. Unable to shrink himself any smaller than 5'8", he often has trouble with intimidating races of a considerably smaller stature. The Ice Giants of his homeland typically sleep in their arctic ocean beds and reach an icy expansion of 60-1000 m during their rest, melting their size down to 20 m (approx 70 ft.) when they choose to wake and travel about the land.
Weight: He has the ability to fluctuate his density and weight by shedding or absorbing water weight. This grants him the ability to assume the light structure of a giant bird of prey, or the neutral buoyancy of a large fish or porpoise.
Eyes: No matter the form he takes, his eyes constantly remain the same icy orbs of light. Because his eyes invariably give off a source of light, he carries with him a variety of straps with the smallest incisions to wear in any of his various shapes in order to cover his eyes without blinding himself.
Personality: Because of his history, he is generally suspicious of all things capable of opinion and/or action. However, he also leaps to assume the most optimistic possibility regarding others' purposes in their behaviors and actions. This leaves him with a distance personality, and due to his misplacement as an ice giant in other realms of the world, it leaves others extremely fearful and untrusting of Cryotius.
Buried beneath the icy flesh, lies the guarded, shattered, and calloused caring heart. Those who knew him before what he only refers to as 'the Betrayal' remembered his artistic, druidic nature as a guardian of the waters and winds of the north. But lucky and blessed would be those with the opportunity now to see his permeated scowl melt away from his face even in the most jovial of times.
History: Cryotius is a bastard son of the gods of different peoples. He took his place among the guardians of the water and winds of the north in his age of searching, where he lived happily and fulfilled his duties even during his age of restlessness until his age of realizations. During that age, he felt that the guardians of the waters and winds of the north had failed to fulfill their full calling, though the Elder Guardians warned him against corruption. For a time he followed their advice, and put his thoughts away, but his words among the Ice Giants began to send tremors of curiosity through those in their age of restlessness. The Elders took action by sending Cryotius into Exile under the grounds that he belonged not to the people of the Ice Giants because his mother belonged to a foreign divinity. He was branded a Spy and a Traitor, and so began his trek away from the North...
Cryotius... former guardian of the water and winds of the north, spy and traitor, outcast, exile, misplaced one, untrusted one... the fallen
Strengths: As a shapeshifting giant, Cryotius retains a mystical strength surpassing that of the natural forms he assumes. He is remarkably swift in his movements no matter his form, and tends to move and behave slowly as preference rather than physical inhibition. As part of his time as a guardian of the waters and winds of the north, he attained the ability to manipulate the shape and force of both elements. Although he possesses this ability, the energy exerted varies for its different uses. Shaping water into ice requires very little energy, manipulating water in its liquid state requires a considerable amount of exertion, and although Cryotius possesses the ability to convert water into steam in vast quantities, the process drains him for up to days depending on the volume of water converted. The same is true with winds, though the much simpler process of creating wind is effortless while the process of stopping wind causes great stress.
Weaknesses: Cryotius is aware of many of his weaknesses. Although an Ice Giant of insurmountable age, he is still barely in the prime of his life cycle. This manner is much different than the mortal life pattern of elves and men.. once killed, Cryotius's energy is spread into the land and water beneath him as his corpse melts and evaporates into the landscape around him. The essence of his being cannot be destroyed until his lifespan is complete and he discovers how to release himself into the earth permanently, but only he can do this. When his physical form is destroyed, as indeed has been done many times, he simply gathers himself into the shape he desires. His vital organs resemble the shape of the beings he shifts into, and should they suffer damage, his incarnate being will cease to exist until he decays fully into vapor and moisture. Once this decay is complete, he can begin the process of gathering himself. This may take days or years depending on the circumstance.
((I'm willing to edit this character, but have become rather fond of his persona, and would appreciate permission to incorporate him into the forum without changes that would effect his behavior and the concept of his life-cycle. Thank you.))
