@houdini: I'm sorry for the length. If it makes you feel better, you've read most of this already. Before I went inactive, I had to rework aspects of Elphame for her approval. Now that I am trying to return to activity again, I am trying to get her approved again! Thank you!
*Name: Elphame (Elpha for short)
*Age: 28
*Race: Shadow Naiad
*Height: 5'6''
*Physical Description: Elphame is a strange, magical mix between Naiad and Shadow. As a Shadow clan member, her long, seemingly endless hair is the deepest black. It does not shine, as it resembles the shadows to which she is tied. Her complexion is a pale, almost transparent white, but at the same time, it is as if writhing shadows resided beneath her skin. Her intense, powerful eyes are a deep, dark blue, similar to the subterranean springs in the Korykian Cave, where her mother resides.
Her clothes are black with seemingly no end or beginning or limit, and always cling to the shadows around her. To the observer's eye, it seems to be a black floating substance. They are a Shadow's clothes meant for a Shadow warrior. They consist of the very essence of the shadow warrior's power mixed with that warriors blood. This means that only the warrior can control the shadowy fabric. It clings to her full figure, allowing for a full range of movement; the skirt is long, but floats off of the ground a few feet and trails behind her. Her legs and arms are not constricted by the shadowy fabric. Instead, coils and curls of black ink made of that same essence rest along her legs and arms for protection. She walks barefoot. She carries with her a shadowed dagger, hidden within the folds of her shadowy clothes.
As a Naiad, stripped of all her Shadow powers (see Powers section), Elphame is physically similar, but less defined, and more womanly. Her black hair takes on a glossy look, resembling the black waters deep within mountain caverns (where her mother supposedly dwells). Her hair, though glossy, falls in curls to her waist. Her skin changes to a more healthy tone, but contrasts strikingly with her black hair. Her eyes stay the same. As for clothes... she makes do with what she can find in this form. She looks as if she had never seen a day of hardship in her life, though her eyes say otherwise.
*Personality: Elphame thinks like the experienced warrior she is. To her people, however, she is young. Her people are a long lived people, like the elves. Elphame has a sentimental heart that is hidden by her warrior's exterior.
Elphame has a playful and kind Naiad heart that rarely surfaces. She has a hard exterior that was built because of her childhood among her father's people. As a warrior she is strong, vicious, and straight-forward. As a shadow, she is patient, meditative, and sneaky.
*History: Daughter of Melaena, the most beautiful of the Naiads, and Karayan, Warrior Prince of the Shadowed People. She lives with her father as a royal warrior, respected and feared by her people.
Her father is the second son out of four children (three sons, one daughter) of Itzal, of Shadowed People. Elphame grew up as a royal, but had to fight for a respected place among her father's people because of her impure blood. To do this, she had to deny her Naiad blood. She then worked ceaselessly to become a most feared warrior among the Shadows. It is because of this that she has made no moves to see or meet with her mother.
As a forbidden match, Melaena and Karayan (Elphame's parents) were separated after Elphame's birth. A ban was placed on Karayan by the , restricting his freedom considerably. As the result of the forbidden match, Elphame was looked down upon, even though she is of noble birth. Despite the politics surrounding the issue, the of Shadows cannot help but dote on his beautifully different granddaughter. As a , Itzal could not approve of the match, but as a grandfather, he chooses to love the result of that forbidden match (i.e. Elphame).
*Powers: Elphame is born with the power to ask the Shadows to obey her. Having royal blood helps to make up for her naiad blood. Using the Shadows' power, her traveling abilities are enhanced. She can travel on the shadows like a shadow -- fast and efficient. She is also able to sense a change in the living shadows, though deciphering that change is another thing entirely. Elphame enjoys experimenting with the powers, seeing what is possible and what is not. She finds new things to do often. She is literally connected to the shadows.
If Elphame has Naiad abilities or powers, she is ignorant of them, because of her upbringing. She suspects some abilities, but rarely pursues them out of fear and anger.
*Weaknesses: Shadow People cannot step into light of any kind. If they do, they are dismissed just as a normal shadow is from a light. Sometimes it is possible to regain/heal the harmed body with much time and care, but few People have ever survived direct exposure to light. Different types of light do harm with varying degrees of intensity, but all harm enough to maim, at least for a time.
Because Elphame is only half Shadow, light cannot kill her completely, but it does sever her from her Shadow blood's inheritance. If she does not wish to die because of direct exposure to light, she is forced to split her soul in two. Her Naiad half is all that remains--the half that she has denied for all her life. Her Shadow half retreats into the shadows and awaits her return. Upon her return to the Shadows, a long and tiring ritual must be completed before she may reunite with the Shadows. This happened once as a child as a result of adult politics gone wrong. She has avoided light contact ever since.
As her Naiad half has been ignored, and is therefore undeveloped, she has only her knowledge and experience to help her in this form. Her physical strength is severely diminished, because she honed her warrior skills in combination with her Shadow powers, not as a Naiad.
She is immortal in the long-living sense, but can obviously die in battle or by light.
