The shadow realm can be a dangerous place...especially at the gate of Thak'ream. Here, those who succumb to the mystical Ka'mar's powers undergo a painful transformation, becoming beasts and demons of lore.
Vexxus has traveled between worlds almost all of her life, and since she is immortal, that is a very, very long time. Shifting between the real world and the shadow realm was nothing new to her...but she had never run into any real dangers there....not until the gate. She had met beasts that were only existent in the realm of shadows, but she did not know the extent of their creation. Not until she found an ancient scroll, hidden deep within the rubble of an abandoned castle ruin. It had been the dwelling place of one of the very few druid monarchies in history, and she wished to know more of her own powers as a shadow mage/druid...little did she know what dark secrets lie in wait.
Written in an ancient tongue, the scroll took her several weeks to translate with the help of an old friend, a fellow shadow mage who was trained in the ancient ways of magic. He had been one of her most recent mentors, though that was a couple hundred years ago. Eventually she found out that the scroll gave instructions on how to get to the gate of Thak'ream, and it also told of the race, the Ka'mar, who had unique magical powers and resources. It did not tell of the evil that awaited her.
Setting out on the quest to find Thak'ream, Vexxus spent eleven years in the shadow realm, captured in the puzzles and mazes and tests that make up the gate. Throughout the tests, however...she was changing. After every test, of which there were at least fifty, she would collapse, grasping at whichever part of her burned with a painfully cold feeling. Sometimes it was simply her wrist, others it was her whole torso. As the tests went on, it got more and more painful. The first, where she entered the gate, was simply to sign her name...after which her fingers on the hand she signed with burned intensely, her pale bluish skin turning a tan-pink, nails growing into long, sharp points, and joints snapping and lengthening, then popping back into place.
It was quite a horrible sight to see, as every piece of her was first broken, then re-grown and assembled again. You may be wondering why she went on, kept doing the tests when she knew it would happen every time afterwards....she tried to go back, she tried desperately...but after every test was over, the wall of the gate to her back closed behind her, impenetrable and causing it to be impossible to leave. In her shoes, you may have stopped and lived in the gate, forever...but you would not have been able to. There was a presence in her mind...not quite like hypnotism, but as if her conscience itself urged her forward, as if something worse would happen if she did not progress.
And it would have. The beasts that she met were those who had not gone through the challenges...horrible, grotesque figures who snarled through hundreds of sharp teeth and stared at you with five eyes, scattered unevenly over their twisted flesh. Some resembled humans...others resembled nothing but all of your nightmares incarnated at once.
The Ka'mar make somewhat of a game out of it...those who don't make it become their "watchdogs", per se, and the very few who make it are taught their ways, and released, with a sort of contract binding them if they are ever beckoned back to Thak'ream. They are their warriors. Deadly and immortal.
As Vexxus progressed, her body became slimmer, lean muscle covered her arms and legs, and her face became even more hauntingly beautiful than it was. Her hair and eyes grew crimson, her skin was a pale tan. The final challenge gave her the most painful change...four long, blood red, curved horns coming from the sides of her head, going toward the back, and a long crimson tail. She sobbed and grasped at her scalp as they began growing inside her scull, breaking it, causing her head to bleed profusely as they broke through the skin as well. The bone of her skull grew back around the base of the horns, as they grew back...longer, longer...she could feel them, as though they were some sort of appendage, she could feel them growing...Curling up, she fell to the cold marble, trembling in pain, hands gripping the foreign figures jutting out of her head, knuckles white...blood pooling around her, dying her blue cloak the same color as the accursed horns. She was barely aware of her tailbone growing longer, but felt a searing pain at the base of her back while she drifted into an unconscious state.
Name: Vexxusaria, Vexxus, Vexx.
Race: Formerly Shektra, now Demon.
Age: Unknown.
Height: 5'6"
Colors:
Hair: Crimson
Skin: Pale tan
Clothing: Red/black, silver metal if wearing gauntlets or armor.
Personality: Kind, sympathetic. Does not judge people unless she knows them completely, and does not believe that pain is a constant measurement: it is different for everyone. She is not afraid of anything; she's a demon, therefore she cannot die, nor can she live. If someone could kill her, she would welcome it, though she spends most of her time using her talents to defend others.
Powers: Still uses the runeblade she had before tranformation; but the Ka'mar reforged it to include some...interesting magical enchantments specially made for demonic weapons. It is still a polished black blade, but now glows a faint red. Horns resembling Vexxus's are carved into the hilt so that two sets emerge from each side above the grip. Red jewels are inlaid around the base of the grip.
Vexx still uses shadow magic, and can still shapeshift, though she keeps her scarlet horns, and her forms are slightly affected by her Demonization. She is now constantly part of the shadow realm, forever trapped between. She can still, however, bring others into the shadow realm.
Weaknesses: Being a demon, Light magic does the most damage, and other general things that pertain to defeating/killing demons. She can still feel and taste everything, but she can live through a very large amount of pain. As far as injuries go, she regenerates body parts and such extremely fast, but if beheaded, she will die.
