Species: Monster
Main Concept:
The inknag is a black gooey parasite that enters wounds big enough for the brain of the monster to take rest. The so-called brain of the monster takes the shape of a red demonic eye. (During night the eyes are highly sensitive to light and will glow red.) The brain of these monsters come in various sizes. Many times wounds will heal over before the parasite settles in, keeping it unawoken and undisturbing the to their host until the wound opens up agian-- if it ever does. When the eye is uncovered after the parasite settles in, it starts releasing a goo that eventually covers the entire host, turning it into a monster. Once the body is covered by this goo, the body is eaten up by the monster form, so that the monster can take on various shapes that are no longer limited by the size of the host. Only highly intelligent inknags can turn a host into a monster from the inside out, rather than from the outside in. These however, are extremely rare.
Intelligence:
Inknags only learn through the intelligence of its hosts, so if it enters the wound of a cat, it can only be as smart as a cat. But inknags carry on the smartest intelligence of it's last host, so if it took the form of a human, its intelligence is carried on to the cat. Intelligence is not passed off to offspring, and cannot be taught to offspring.
Offspring:
After an inknag has survived with total control over it's host for 5 to 7 years, (usually this happens to an apex predatory animal that is secluded deep in the forest away from hunters) the first eye replicates to another eye. Later the newer eye gets kicked out of the original's body to find a host of its own. The more intelligent the original eye is, the faster the newer one leaves. Newly born inknags cannot communicate, think, or reason, and only function based on natural instincts. Usually the newly born host will enter the wound of an animal that was wounded, but survived the encounter of the monster inknag. It takes another 5 to 7 years for another replication to occur, and not all offspring are successful in finding a host before they die. (They do not survive long without a host.)
Defeat:
To defeat an inknag all you have to do is kill the eye. Cold, and cold magic slows down the inknag but increases the muck's defense by solidifying it more. Fire, and fire magic increases the inknag's speed and agility causing it to have a consistency of writing ink if it is hot enough, but it weakens its attacks. The eye has the ability to hide and move around within the goo, but unless the eye has significant intelligence it will usually stay in place. It isn't too difficult of a fight for any skilled fighter, even if the inknag gains intelligence. Also, if the host dies, the inknag will either flee, or die alongside with the host if it is unable to unattach from it's host. Inability to get out of the host usually means that the inknag's transformation process is too far in, or it might have an emotional attachment to its host.
Legend:
Some people say it is possible to make deals with an inknag to keep it in check once they have infected you. Newer published books say that people purposely infect themselves to gain demonic power. But who can say for sure?
(Note: You can control any inknags separate from my main character.)
