A strong gust of wind blew threw the small village of Lorraine. Flowers were ruffles, flyer's flew, and the frail elderly braced themselves to avoid toppling over. Sophie had just finished gathering up the last of the leaves when they were all scattered by the unexpected gust. Ignoring her work being ruined, she closed her eyes and enjoyed the sweet scent of the wind. If only she could freeze time at a moment like this. Not likely though, there was so much to do. She opened her eyes and frowned at the mess before her. With a sigh, she began to gather up the leaves for a second time.
With only ten days before the Autumn Festivals, everyone was busily engaged in preparation. Most were finally getting around to decorating homes, finishing up late spring cleaning, creating costumes and jewelry for the celebrations and trying to catch a breath in all the excitement. The air was stirring with an anticipation that slowly grew as the days passed.
With Sophie, the air stirred with frustration at not being able to finish her chores. The leaves taunted her as they delicately floated back to the ground. Sophie growled at them. She gripped the broom tightly and her eyes narrowed. Suddenly, every single leaf within sight disintegrated. The air picked up in time to spread the ashes. Sophie smiled at her chore being finished. Now she didn't even have to gather the leaves into a wagon to be thrown away. She leaned the broom against a tree and headed towards the village square.
At the center of this I shaped village, some of the best carvers were working on the customary sacrificial idol. A large wooden statue of a gorgeous man, that is set on fire as a sacrifice to the goddess of Leona lake. This was all worked on behind large curtains, seeing as it was a great sign of disrespect to see it anytime earlier then when he is burned.
Sophie heard the carvers working away and whispering softly to each other. She wondered what the idol was going to look like this year.
The village square is the most populated part of the small village. Most of the shops are gathered in the general area as well as the home of the mayor, the church and the school. To the north was the church, the south was mainly for shopping, to the west was the home of the village's mayor and across from it was the only school in the village. To get to any other part of the small village you almost always crossed through the square.
Sophie headed towards the bakery to pick up some bread for her mother. She smiled enjoying the hustle and bustle of the square. Everyone was so preoccupied with themselves and getting things done.
Just as Sophie looked up, the sky was beginning to darken. A drop of rain caught her on the cheek.

"Vincent!" Nemus jumped up and down, trying to catch onto the closest branch of the apple tree looking over the center of town. "How do you do this?!" Vincent laughed with tears in his eyes, his head against the rough bark that he loved so. After his laughing ceased, he scanned the market place. He studied each and every face, putting names to as many as he could.
"Shut up!" Vincent yelled, not really being serious. "I need to find Sophie. You seen her today?"
"Naw." Nemus responded. "Heh. She's probably off burning stuff with her super powers!" A half eaten apple nailed Nemus on the bridge of his nose, sending his face into the dirt ground.
"Shut your mouth." Vincent looked once more over the market, spotting Sophie at a bread stand. He looked down to his friend, who still lay on the ground and laughed. "Oh, shake it off." He said as he jumped from his perch in the tree, landing softly on the ground beside Nemus.
He sprinted toward the marketplace, moving through the crowd like a snake in the grass. He reached his sister, and placed a hand on her nearest shoulder, bending over to catch his breath. "Hey sis. What's up? I haven't seen you for a while. I think mom wanted you for somethin'"

Vincent's touch snapped Sophie out of her reverie. She looked down at her little brother not recognizing him for a second. "Oh h-," she started as it suddenly began to pour. The rain came down heavily, it felt like miniature pebbles. She grabbed Vincent's hand and quickly ran to the shelter of the bakery. Her dress was soaked and her sandaled feet were speckled with dirt. She turned to watched the rain come down. People were scattering to their homes to get out of the rain. It was quite a sight, within seconds the town square was deserted. Sophie turned the baker's counter and ran her fingers threw her rain drenched hair. It was now a dark brown, matching her eyes.
"Ah Sophie, Vincent, wasn't that outta nowhere. Sun then rain hah, what can I get for ya?" Alex, the Baker's son eyed Sophie. They were about the same age. He was interested. Sophie smiled, not at all aware of how he looked at her. "Just the usual please." Sophie replied. She leaned on the counter as Alex gathered their order. She turned towards Vincent, "What'd you say? That was crazy huh?" She smiled. She loved the rain, she was a bit excited.

As soon as he and his sister reached the cover of the bakery he crossed his arms, placed them on the counter and shoved his face into them. About two seconds later, after Sophie was done talking to Alex, she said something to him. His head shot up. "Whoa, where am I!" He laughed. "Heh, what'd you say? Oh yea, sorry, my brain just stopped functioning there for a moment. Ummmm..."
Vincent placed his right elbow on the counter, smashing his face into his hand. "Uhhhh... Oh yea, mom wanted you for somethin'. She didn't say what though." He took himself from the counter and looked out toward the apple tree he just sat on. He saw Nemus through the rain getting up and rubbing his nose. He was soaking wet. Vincent laughed. "Yea," he said, facing his sister. "something like that." He got back into his position on the counter and looked at Alex, who watched Sophie intently. "Hey Alex, I didn't even notice you." He laughed. He spent most of his days laughing at things that weren't even funny in his own mind.
He took the brief moment of Alex looking away to sneak a piece of bread into his belt pouch. Vincent looked back at Sophie. "Yea, but I don't know how we are gonna get home in this rain."

Sophie laughed lovingly at her little brother's antics. He was such a dork, but he was her dork so it was ok. Alex frowned at Vincent's comment, he didn't like not being noticed. "Here Sof," he handed her a sack filled with an assortment of breads. She grabbed the sack smiling, "Put it on our tab, k?" He nodded at her and headed to the tend to another customer that had been in the bakery.
Sophie had just noticed the man standing not too far from her little brother. He was tall, a bit chubby and very dark skinned. The clothes he wore were all extremely dull looking and looked very old, a tarnished brown. The hat he wore hid his face, he was also looking slightly to the left as if trying to conceal it purposely. Her smile faded as she studied the stranger. Something wasn't right about him.
A loud splash followed by a child's laughter stole Sophie's attention. Rena, the current youngest citizen of Lorraine, at a year and six months, was splashing in a giant puddle that had gathered in the middle of the square. Her tuft of black hair had grown since Sophie last saw her, it now could make a ponytail. She looked adorable in nothing but a small pink t-shirt and her diaper. The sun was coming out, you could see it reflecting off of Rena's light green eyes. The rain had let up while Sophie studied the stranger, those who had retreated were now returning, resuming their daily tasks.
"Awww looks like mom must really want me home huh? She stopped the rain." Sophie pouted childishly. She looked out at the square, when suddenly she was struck by the kid in her. Sophie handed Vincent the sack of bread. She winked at him then ran and jumped into a giant puddle. It splashed everywhere, wetting Sophie's dress for the second time. Those standing nearby quickly moved to avoid getting splashed. "Sophie I took a shower at home, NO Thankyou." An elder mocked with a smirk. A few laughed at this remark. Sophie just smiled and walked back towards Vincent. "Your turn?" She took the sack.

Vincent laughed as his sister jumped around in the rather large puddle. If they were in a different village, everyone would would her strangely. But in this village everyone knew each other. Lorraine was fun, unlike all of the other bland places scattered around Lonea Lake in Valear. He loved his sister. She always found a way to have a fun time. As she walked toward him he crossed his arms across his chest. "Your turn?" She asked.
"Hey," Vincent said, disregarding her question at the moment. "You're a little wet there." He nodded, taking his arms to his sides. He sprinted, faster than he had when he had first found Sophie and pushed his feet against the way, leaping from the ground. He flew through the now humid air. His feet collided with the cool water, splashing it at those who stood around him. "Ha!" Vincent shouted as he hit the water. As his feet hit the ground he fell over.
"Ouch." He said, his face against the wet ground. He laid the palm of his hand on the ground, pushing his body up to his knees. He stood fully erect and faced his sister, smiling. "Heh." He brushed the dirt from his legs and waddled back to Sophie. "Okay, so we gotta go now I think."

Sophie clutched at her stomach, she was laughing so hard it hurt. What a fall that was, face plant she wanted to say, but she couldn't stop laughing. It settled down slowly as her little brother walked back. She wiped the tears from her eyes and smiled.
Sophie put her finger tips to her temples and closes her eyes, "I foresee trouble in our future." She mocks a telepath and hums quietly to herself. She opens her right eye slowly and looks at Vincent. "Mom's going to freak." She smiles putting her hands down and shakes her head. "Luckily, I can say you splashed me." She grins at him.
Looking slightly to the left, she notices that the strange man is gone. She immediately scans the crowd but doesn't locate him. "Where could he have gone...?" She mumbles softly to herself.
She glances over at Vincent suddenly. She looks left, she looks right. She screams suddenly as she dashes off heading south towards their small home. "Race you home!"

Vincent heard his big sister mumble something to herself, while looking around at the market place. He didn’t pay much attention to it though. He talked to himself a lot too. After that Vincent looked to the ground, wishing he had food. Vincent was always . Luckily, he remembered the bread he had stolen from the bakery. Even though he was right by Alex he reached in his pouch, pulled out the bread, and munched on it. He noticed crumbs all over his black shirt, and wiped them off. As Vincent wiped off the crumbs, his sister screamed. "Race you home!" Ahhhh! He thought, stumbling backwards. He looked up to see Sophie running off toward home. “Ohhh! Sophie! I don’t wanna run!” Vincent pouted, breaking into a sprint. He would never let his sister beat him in a race. It was make him lose his pride. Ha! Not really! “Yea!” He panted to his sister as he caught up to her. “I… won’t let…… you beat me!” He shouldn’t have said anything. That just let him lose even more breath.

Sophie spotted the large apple tree that meant home was soon to be within sight. She slowed down to let her little brother pass her, so he would meet mother first. Besides, he liked to win, so she let him.
Sophie and Vincent lived in a spacious two story home built by their father. It was made of the finest red oak and blessed ore's imported from a faraway city. It was completed a few days before Sophie's birth so Sophie did basically live their her entire life, as did Vincent. The way the house was built, it looks as if it's pretty small, many trees block the home from being viewed completely from the front. It was Sophie's mini-castle.
Getting to the front door, Sophie followed Vincent inside. They followed their noses to the dining room to find it set up for dinner. Chicken, salads, potatoes, soup, and lots of fruits decorated the tabletop. Sophie licked her lips in anticipation. Mind you, they had to go through the entry way, the living room, then the kitchen to reach the dining room. Sophie had tossed the sack of bread onto the counter top in the kitchen while passing. The two seemed to have forgotten they were a mess and bought it with them inside, they dripped everywhere all over the solid oak floors.
About ready to sit down and eat, they heard footsteps behind them. "Oh my... SOPHIE, VINCENT, THE FLOORS HAD JUST FINISHED- I CAN'T BE- Oh MY DEAR." Sophie didn't even turn around, she just pushed Vincent forward and ran. Survival of the fittest. She controlled her laughter since she didn't want to get into even more trouble. She headed for the stairs and ran up them and locked herself in her room. Her mother was a neat freak. The sweetest thing in the world until you ruined her hard days worked. Luckily Sophie knew if you disappeared and quick, she would calm down and just clean up the mess anyway. Locking her door and throwing herself against it, she caught her breath and just waited. She could still hear screaming. She ran over to the door that led to the bathroom and through the bathroom led to Vincent's room. She knocked softly on it hoping he made it to his room before mom exploded.
