I just finished my first short story, so I'll post the document you can download for yourselves. Just so you can get a feel of what the story is like, I'll post the opening paragraph here. “Dusk enveloped the sleeping village. Not a living creature prowled the streets, treaded the broken cobblestone; nor did any animals of the dark serenade the village with their nighttime melodies. Cracked stone walls and battered rooftops stood harsh and cold, admitting the absence within them. A lone gust of wind blew with abandon through the hollow alleyways, bringing forth a mysterious chill. It was then, he realized, that it was all over.” h1.ripway.com/Torrential/TheLivesofOthers.doc

Good work, Tor. Boy that story is short. And if you ever wanted to expand it and make it more of a novel, that would be easy to do as well. It would make a great summary or teaser for a longer book or series.

Hmm, I'm going to drag this one to the PMs, for the editting.
As to the book itself, I haven't read it yet.

If he wants to leave it as a short storry, don't presure him. He'll figure it out for himself.
Personally, I think it's very good, Tor. Sad, but good.

Thanks! I'm saving the book writing until after I have a steady job.

We were just commenting based on the way it was written and other threads Tor has posted in about his writing. Tor, don't you know that most authors starve for years and then make it their full time job?

It's extremely hard to just write for a living, I'd imagine. Constant pressure, especially meeting deadlines. If I were to write books full-time, it's not going to by anytime soon.
