"Adalyn" he whispered, the name tickling his lips. He smiled at her, a somber smile which could otherwise be mistaken for arrogant smugness. He would have sighed, and inhaled to do so, but stopped when the air contained scents of Cakoph, reminding him of who he was with and the image he had to keep.
"Your life is not pathetic in the least." he boldly stated, rewarded with a curious look from Cakoph, who gripped his arm tightly.
"You'll have to excuse us. We're busy. Come back later tonight if you want to see 'Den' again." he growled, leading Edward away by his arm, who struggled all the way.
"Get your hand off me!" he snarled, grabbing the other man's wrist and bending it backward, threatening to the snapping point.
"You'll have to pick which lady you'll make love to tonight: your new toy, or the Muse." Cakoph snarled back with equal venom.
At the mention, Edward's ire vanished. Indeed, he looked a little guilty for having made such an outburst.
He looked over his shoulder back at the young lady, who had to be thoroughly startled at this point. "Please, do come tonight. You won't regret it." he winked slyly at her, "I promise."
"Oh, yes, I'm sure she'll come." Cakoph muttered darkly under his breath.
Edward gave him a look black as the Pits, abruptly changing to flash his signature smile at Adalyn, then turned and left. He knocked thrice upon a nearby stall, hoping with all his black, twisted heart he would see her tonight.

"Um... alright." Adalyn whispered and watched Den disappear with the other guy he was with.
Adalyn wasn't for sure what to do. Should she go ack to see him or go and tend to her mother and find her a place to live.
Adalyn walked slowly the wind gently kissing her flushed cheeks as it blew. Adalyn would love to see Den again but family always comes first even if her mother and step father did not even appriciate what Adalyn will and has don for them.
"Momma... you and Kur and come and stay with me in my cottage until you have you another house." I offered with a smile.
"We were going to come and stay with you anyways... what did you think we were going to do, live under a tree." Kur retorted with attitude.
"I'm sorry." Adalyn bowed her head a little it and then began walking toward her small cottage near the outskirts of town away from everyone. There, Adalyn would get cleaned up and diner ready for the whole family... she would probably have to give up her own bed so that her step father wouldn't abuse her or anything.

The nadir of the sun had just touched the horizon as the preparations for the night's festivities were completed. Edward sighed wearily, wiping his pasty brow and dusting his filthy hands. He looked at the dying sun; or rather, the dark maroons, violets, and royal blues surrounding it. The clouds, moments ago a blinding gold, had turned a vibrant blood-red, at which Edward smiled with grim aesthetic satisfaction.
"He he given us any commands?" Cakoph brought Edward violently out of his daydream.
"I told you, Cakoph, you'll know as soon as I do." Edward tersely answered.
"Do you think we should warm up?" Cakoph inquired, the eagerness overly evident in his voice.
"Admit it, you're addicted to the power I give you." he growled.
"You may think you have me in your clutches, but remember -- I'm the best vessel and most willing recipient of that 'gift' of yours. I doubt anyone would be so eager to have a devil curse them."
"My power is a curse, then?" Edward stiffened dangerously.
"In the sense that it came from an infernal being, yes, it is."
Edward watched as the sun dipped under an ill-placed cloud, blocking off the light and darkening the area into a bright twilight.
"Get the others ready. We'll do a quick run before we open the gates. We have, maybe, half an hour. If you want a taste of your vice before the actual performance, you'll hurry. And we both know that the energy I transmit during the performance isn't as soft as when we're practicing. Perfection is essential -- no room for foul-ups."
Cakoph shivered as Edward spoke, because the last sentence was not him speaking.
Half an hour, and everything else in the world could be damned for all Edward cared. Tonight, his most loyal lover would be with him. Yet, secretly, deep inside his heart, he hoped another would show.

Adalyn after cooking diner for the family she took a shower and dressed for bed. Adalyn began to walk to her room dressed in her night gown when she heard snoring. She knew it, Kur would take over her bed... he didn't even ask!
So Adalyn grabbed a blanket and a small pillow and headed toward the couch. She curled up on the small couch. It was cramped and Adalyn's muscles began to ache.
Adalyn finally couldn't stand it anymore and her moved from the couch outside on the porch. There at least she wasn't cramped up and was able to get a little breeze; plus it was pretty out tonight and she could handle the warm night.
Adalyn stretched out on the top step and watched the moon and soon she began to drift off to sleep. While she fell into dreams she thought of the party that she was invited to. *It's probably to late now. I wish I were with him.*
