"How happy that blameless vestal's lot!
The world forgetting by the world forgot.
[Eternal spirit of the chainless mind,]
Each pray'r accepted, each wish resign'd." ~ A. Pope (modification by Byron)
Name: Silvarn Grey-Eyes
Age: Disregarded and forgotten
Race/Class: Human/Mage
Physical Description: 5'10", 140 lbs, light build. Steel-grey eyes, silver hair and deathly pallid skin. Looks perpetually tired and ill, with dark patches under his eyes and sunken cheeks. Aside from this, he appears a little past the prime of youth, but his eyes look ancient, even dead.
Personality: Stay away. Stay far away. Not a people person. He prefers to keep to himself, but will tolerate the presence of others if they share a common goal. He enters towns, taverns, and other public places only when necessary.
Silvarn is addicted to knowledge. The promise of new information always piques his interests, oftentimes to his regret. He could not care less about social gossip, though.
Finally, Silvarn abhors mirrors for two reasons: first, people tend to become frightened of Silvarn when they are unable to see his reflection; second, because Silvarn sees his reflection, but his image appears as twisted, fiendish apparition.
Background: Silvarn was a magic prodigy, mastering spells left and right. He soon surpassed his teachers, and turned on them, demanding all their knowledge in exchange for their lives. He vanished for many years after that.
In that period of time, he was enslaved by a powerful ancient entity named Khul'Yddis, the Twisted Mirror. Khul'Yddis offered Silvarn a simple deal: Khul'Yddis would give Silvarn the keys to infinite magical prowess in exchange for Silvarn's servitude. Silvarn agreed in a heartbeat.
At the same time, Silvarn received his greatest power and his shackles. The power manifested in a powerful element Khul'Yddis called Twilight, capable of devouring anything in path, like acid. By accepting that power, all of Silvarn's innocence, mercy, hope and the youth of his soul were consumed. Silvarn served Khul'Yddis blindly, his actions not registering. He did remember, however, working frequently with Khul'Yddis' favorite demon slaves, demonic triplets named Scorcahr, Eininahr, and Mantarahr, who had power over lightning, ice, and flame, respectively.
Silvarn's path of destruction was soon stymied as an entrepid band of heroes found and slew Khul'Yddis, releasing Silvarn from the Twisted Mirror's hold, but the fluctuating and conflicting energies around Silvarn caused Scorcahr's mind to be bound to Silvarn's, permanently, while the other two were disintegrated utterly. The spirits of the triplets altered the manifestations of Silvarn’s Twilight powers.
Scorcahr has been with him throughout all his travels and their bond is more of a mutual tolerance than an actual friendship. They both respect each other's abilities, but that does not prevent either of them from making snide comments about the other. In order to communicate with Scorcahr, Silvarn must speak aloud, though he is completely oblivious to this. Many believe he is insane because he frequently talks to himself.
Abilities: Because of his natural talent, Silvarn has gained exceptional potency in the arts of wielding magic. He refrains from wielding any of the conventional elements, but instead limits himself to a combination of all the others, synchronized perfectly and harmonically to produce a devastating and powerful new magic: Twilight. This powerful magic treads the fine line between light and dark; and, as such, is able to nullify them and the elements attributed to them.
This new element is extremely draining in any form: physically, emotionally, mentally, even spiritually. When he uses the Twilight, he surrounded by thick, heavy grey fog that roils along the ground where he treads. His grey robes and cloak seem to meld right into the mists he carries about him like an imperial cape. Twilight can take on one of three forms: lightning, flame, and, its most iconic form, mist.
Silvarn's physical prowess is quite lacking. He holds himself as an intellectual and has never formally studied fighting. All knowledge about brawling he possesses he earned from surviving in hostile realms.
Since only Scorchar's mind resides within Silvarn, the demon can travel into the minds of others, giving Silvarn limited telepathy and psionic manipulation, but only if the victim does not put up much resistance or is unaware of the attack.
His motives? He wants to leave this plane of existence. He needs to escape the constant memories and flashbacks of his days as Khul'Yddis' servant.
