HistoryA Child Is Born On a clear night, a child was born to Rosa McDawson and Peter McDawson. Peter was a simple townsperson in a fishing village near Lonea Lake. He and Rosa lived a good, happy life.
However, the birth of a child changed everything.
Jacob, as Rosa and Peter named the child, was not just any child. He did not cry like other babies and as he grew older he did not play with other children. He was always in his room, drawing.
It made his parents anxious and they decided to speak to the local wiseman. The wiseman went to Jacob’s room and spoke to the kid, who was now 8 years old.
“Jake? May I ask you some questions?” his friendly but deep voice sounded.
Jacob looked up from his drawings and turned. He was surprised to see the village’s wiseman.
“Uhm, yes sir. You can.” He answered, a bit shy.
“Those are nice drawings, Jacob.” He said as he stepped towards the young child.
Jacob nodded, “thank you!”, and waited for the wiseman to continue.
“Why won’t you play with the other kids?”
“Because I like to draw. I don’t like to be outside that much. The sunlight is annoying to me.”
“It is?” the wiseman asked. “Why is that, Jacob?”
“I don’t know.”
The wiseman stroked his beard and thought over it. Jacob surely was something special. After the conversation the old man went home to think about it. Then he remembered an ancient poem:
Child, child, child of star dust,
Wake up, wake up under a full moon,
Child, child, child of the night,
Try to avoid the sun’s light.
Child, child, child of the night,
Be careful for the dark,
You are the Light. The wiseman did not know what the poem had to do with Jacob, but he knew it was about Jacob. He decided to meditate on it, and ask the greater spirits for counsel.
And so it happened that the wiseman took on Jacob as his apprentice. He knew that Jacob would become the new wiseman of the village, to guide and protect it against all evil, just like he himself was to do. The wiseman was growing older every day and he knew his end was nigh. Finally, a new wiseman was coming to replace the old one. The village was save.
Fate… It’s Written In The Stars… As Jacob reached the age of 17 the wiseman died. Now he was responsible for the village’s savety. Everyone had accepted him as the new protector and guardian and counselor, and his parents were very proud. Jacob himself was very sad about the wiseman’s death, for he was a true friend and mentor to him.
For months everything was peaceful, until a raid of orcs struck the village. Jacob raised his sword and fought like a real warrior. He used his magics to defeat foes, but he was still too young and not powerful enough to defeat them. He was not ready to be a wiseman yet. He was too young.
He was beaten and stricken to the ground. The orcs set the village on fire and took everything, leaving Jacob for dead. When the poor teenager woke up the next night, it took him a few minutes to realize what had happened. The previous night, orcs had destroyed his hometown.
He stood up, with a headache. His body did hurt and he was shaking from fear. He ran back home only to find his house burnt to the ground and his parents killed.
Poor Jacob fell to his knees and looked up straight at the moon. He began to cry.
Then, something happened.
The spirit of the elder appeared in the sky and spoke to Jacob:
“The light will shine upon you, Child of Stars. So bright, it will light your way. But every light, no matter how bright, Has a little darkness. Becareful, Dust, Or you’ll become what you Fear the most…”
After these words of wisdom, the spirit vanished and Jacob was alone. He fell to the ground, he felt cold and empty. He fell asleep.
The following morning he woke among the ruins of his hometown and he decided it was better to leave this place of sorrow. He started to walk… To walk towards the unknown. Never he had been outside of town, he did not know where to go.
He was driven by only one thing, revenge! He wanted to avenge his hometown.
Inner Demon Jacob was driven by hatred and revenge. He arrived in Tamasha Village and he took on the life of a mercenary. For years he did all kinds of dangerous jobs until he reached true point of darkness.
It was his inner demon that woke. Ever since the fall of his hometown, it had been growing stronger, until it came to life. Jacob became tainted.
He was slowly destroying himself and he was going insane. For days he wandered through the desert, where his mission had taken him, he wandered alone.
He would not last long if nobody would save him. He was dying.
Then he had a vision, as he lay in the warm sand. He saw the wiseman, his spirit came to him.
“Jacob… Look at what you have become…”
“You have become what you fear the most… You have become darkness and you are about to fall apart…”
Jacob remained silent. He listened to his old mentor.
“That is not the way of a wiseman, Jacob. Even when everything has been taken from him…”
“You…” Jacob managed to say.
“No, Jacob. YOU! Look at yourself. You’ve become pathetic.”
The wiseman said harsh words to Jacob and then vanished. Jacob was alone. Lost.
Redemption But in the end there is light.
If it wasn’t for a group of travelers to find Jacob, he would die for sure. They quickly gave him medical treatment and brought him to the nearest village where they healed him.
He thought about the things he had experienced in his vision and he could feel the inner demon trying to keep control over him. He decided he had to end that and to regain the light. After all, he was the Child of the Stars.
When he fell asleep the demon came to him in one of his dreams. Jacob didn’t hesitate and immediately attacked it. He punched with his fists and kicked with his feet. However, the demon struck him with a great blow and Jacob was knocked back. Then the demon summoned his sword of darkness and he was about to kill Jacob. The sword was coming closer and just when it was about to hit Jacob, he summoned the staff of light. With the staff he blocked off the demons attack and he then casted his magic, a thick beam of light. It was an epic battle but in the end, Jacob had won. He had also learned how to summon the staff of light.
He woke up with a twinkle in his eyes and he felt relief.
Jacob was redeemed.
When he was fully healed he set out for Tamasha Village, to pick up his life again, as a mercenary. He had lost the lust for vengeance and he did not carry hatred in his heart anymore…
The light will shine upon you, Child of Stars
So bright, it will light your way
But every light, no matter how bright
Has a little darkness
You, Dust,
Are redeemed…
