James continued trudging through the forest, moving and pushing the brush and obstacles from their path. It had only been a few hours since their journey was disrupted by the strange Dez boy. IT had not impeded Their progress, but it had damaged James's pride. He had allowed somebody that violent near Raine, the girl close behind him who he had sworn to protect and to eliminate the scum chasing after her. There were several problems with his mission though. Though he had already killed one and injured another of her family, he knew they would only get more powerful. Secondly, he was slowly falling in love with Raine as the journey grew longer. It got in the way, it made him sloppy, careless, doing anything to protect her. not to mention the constant pain of knowing she would never feel the same cut through him like a knife. But he moved onward, until finally they broke through the brush, as several lights lit up the night sky in the distance. He smiled and turned around to check if Raine was still there. "Ya see that? Told you we would make it to the next town." he said.

Raine followed James through the forest and soon they saw lights in the distance. As he turned to her and smiled, she nodded. "Yeah you were right." she smiled at him gently. James's actions had confused her lately. He was becoming more upset and depressed. He didn't seem like the same boy she met at the other town and she was worried that this mission was becoming too much for him.

This is all my fault. He got dragged into this mess because of me..

She felt sad that James was suffering but didn't know how to help him. She knew he was trying hard to hide it. Still she had to make a brave face herself and hope whatever was wrong with him would soon pass. If she couldn't do anything to help, the least she could do was ease his worries with her smile.

"C'mon." Raine took his hand and led him towards the town. She seemed happy to see a town.

James slightly blushed as Raine took his hand grateful she was facing the other way and walked into the town with her. He was immediately taken in by the torches and lights in nearly every shop window, as even though the sun was rapidly setting this town was still very much alive and bustling with people of every race. he quickly closed his eyes, reaching out to see if he could sense any other demon kind, but he could only smell Raine's faint demon scent, and oddly the smell of roses. Thinking of her hair color, he chuckled slightly. He turned to her and crossed his arms. "So, food or sleep first? It's up to you dear."

"Well.." Raine's stomach growled and she blushed. "I guess my stomach speaks for itself. Food it is then!" she announced with a slight grin.

She looked around and grinned, finding a nearby place to get food. Once again she grabbed his hand and led him to the restaurant, not even realizing what her touch was doing to him.

She was oblivious to his love, after all, he didnt say he did love her. In fact when she got a brief thought of it, she dismissed it because she believed that it couldn't happen.

They found a place to sit down and Raine looked at the menu. She was hiding her hair under her hood once more, afraid of being hurt because of being a half demon. She looked through the menu, licking her lips and then met James' eyes. "So what are you having?"

James blushed deeper and followed her into the restaurant as he sat down. he took a menu and began reading. Though, from behind the menu, he kept stealing glances at Raine. He could not help it, being so enchanted by her beauty. When she finally looked at him, he nervously looked away, fearing being caught. When she asked hat he wanted, he shook his head and placed it in front of him. "Just some water. I'm...not that ..." he replied, realizing little other than Raine was on his mind nowadays.

She looked worried. "Are you sure? You aren't are you? I hope this running around isn't too much for you." She said.

She went ahead and ordered her food once the waiter arrived, and still looked at James, a little worried. "By the way, I didn't get a chance to thank you.." She smiled softly. "So thanks for protecting me."

Dez had been sprinting through the forest for almost an hour when he finally came to the town. He knew just where to go. He came to the restaurant and scanned the room for any sign of James. "Now where are you, brotha..." He spotted James and Raine sitting at a table not to far away. He calmly walked over to the table, sat down next to Raine, and picked up a menu. "Aw I don't know what to choose..." Dez spoke calmly as if he were there the whole time. He smirked "Raine, what would you suggest?"

James nodded, sure he could not eat. he finally gripped the edge of the table, realizing he had to put his feelings out now before they tore him apart inside out. he sighed. "I believe after we eat and rest tonight Raine, we should be heading to find the rest of your family tomorrow. The truth is, ever since I met you, I've been falling ever deeper in love with you, day by day. It has so consumed me that I sometimes act harshly and I cannot eat from the pressure of having to withhold my feelings for you. i Suggest we eliminate your family as soon as possible so you may get rid of me before the feeling gets any stronger for you..." he explained, the whole time looking down at his boots, embarrassed of the words that seemed to fall like heavy boulders form his mouth.

James's head snapped up immediately, alert as he heard Dez's voice. He stood quickly, his eyes flickering to red, one hand on his hilt. "Get out. Now Dez. I will not warn you twice."

Dez smiled and looked at James. "Ah brotha, the only person you've hurt is ya self....but thanks for the concern...So!" Dez put his hand on Raine's shoulder. "What have I missed love?" He said, looking at Raine warmly.

Raine's eyes widened as he spoke. Every word he spoke was like a arrow through her. But before she could even respond, Dez showed up out of nowhere and plopped himself down next to her.

"Dez? What are you doing here?" She asked. She heard James' threat and swallowed, somehow figuring this would end badly. "Now wait. No fighting you two." She said looking from one to another. To be honest she didn't know how to handle this situation. Especially after James told her his feelings.

James growled as Dez touched Raine, he became infuriated. The only thought in his mind was that of blood. A plethora, an endless fountain of gore sprouting from Dez's neck. But he stopped as Raine said to let him. He growled as Gilashi cooed in his head. "Maybe he reminds her of Danny boy. oooh, Rejection Jamesy! SOrry kid." James let go of his sword as he turned around holding his cloak tight to his body. "Enjoy your meals then. I am going for a walk." James immediately sprinted out of the restaurant and tore down the streets as fast as his agile elven legs could carry him. Eventually, he arrived back at the same restaurant somehow, and he gave in to simply climbing to the top and sitting crouched upon the top of the roof. Drowning in nothing but sorrow and his thoughts, he waited for the two to finish their meal. The sooner he killed the demons after Raine, the better.

Dez looked at Raine with a smirk, "Be back soon, sista'." He said, winking at her. Dez slowly walked up the stairs onto the roof. He calmly walked over and put both hands on James's shoulders. He leaned in and whispered in a deeper, darker tone than usual. "We have a few things to discuss, James."

[laraine]

Raine was once again, alone. She closed her eyes, letting the weight of everything that was said fall into her.

He loves me, and he seems to be in pain...

Flashes of the past began to enter her mind and she grasped her head.

"Worthless Half Demon.."
"Killer!"
"He died because of you. Anything and everyone you touch will be cursed with this fate."

Yanking her head up from the stupor tears began to flow freely from her eyes. The pain clutched at her heart. She felt like such a horrible person. The darkness within her became all too consuming.

She couldn't take the silence any more. She got up and ran out the door. She was running away again. That much she knew. But James didn't understand, he didn't understand her. Maybe he didn't want to understand. If it hurt to be with her. Then the best thing she could do was leave.

She continued to run down the street, only to come face to face with someone. She stopped and looked on in shock.

"Well Well Well..dear little Laraine." The figure smirked, red eyes boring through her soul. With a flick of long pink hair she smirked and took a step towards Raine threateningly. "It's been a while.."

James growled, whipping his head aroudn to glare at Dez. Quickly, a smirk broke across his face as he dashed forward, grabbing Dez by the throat. "No, you sir are in the wrong place trying to play the one in power here. So far you are the one who owes me some answers..." he began to dig razor sharp claws into the boys throat as his eyes glkazed over red once more, when suddenly a strong presence knocked him back into his normal state. He recognized it. the cold dark aura....yet similar to Raines. he kenw they were in trouble. He threw Dez to the floor and spat at him. "If you were wise you would leave before I come back for you." James then leaped agilely from the roof and began sprinitng towards the presence.

immediately James saw towo forms. one, his dear raine, the other obviously one of the family. he growled and surged forward as He pushed in front of Raine and drew forth his sword, and within an insant he had the blade to the woman's throat. "Before you even say another word, I am this girl's protector. you are not going to lay a single finger upon her while my accursed heart beats. Now, I am going to kill you either way, but before that you can redeem yourself and give me some answers. WHY IS SHE BEING HUNTED?" he shouted. he found himself beginning to dig the tip of the sword into the womans throat as he growled waiting for a response.

Dez walked up behind James calmly. "James," He said as he put his hand on James's shoulder. "We need to have a very, very serious talk. No violence. To anyone. But James..." He leaned in behind James as he held his sword out to the woman's throat. "...if it helps, it involves Raine's safety..." Dez looked at James and smiled. "Just thought that might help! Oh, and I suggest you kill this woman." He said, pointing at the woman. Dez started to walk away and look towards Raine with an almost confused look, and muttered something to himself.
