Gadrai followed in the trees, nearly silent; only those greatly talented in knowing nature would be able to tell he was even moving. However, he followed, watching. He felt his heart thud hard, hoping that he wouldn't be betrayed. His jealousy was striking hard, and he was winning the fight against it so far. Only time would tell if it would break him. In the grace of the Wood... ...please... ...spare me pain...
[[He's going to break, but I don't know which direction...]]

Finn watched the girl curiously, glancing towards the trees as she had done, and coming to short conclusions in his mind. He contemplated on how shy she must have been, and how frightened. The words “...son of Adam” lingered in his ears, and he smiled at her with an attempt at reassurance. Many of the children in Tamasha had been known to wander beyond city walls in their time, acting only out of curiosity, though they would on rare occasion find themselves adrift over the plains for hours before the scouting guard picked up their trail. He might well have presumed her circumstances the same; a bad chance of fate to go undetected before reaching the forest borders, and a second to be lost in its maze by nightfall; yet there were no concessions that he could find for the fact she was crowned by offshoots of wild timber. This was not all he found perplexing. Her manner and the way in which she stood did little to synchronise with the common urchin, of those that he knew. She was childlike, that he agreed, but deceptively so.
“You need not be afraid of me, ma'am” he said, in his low, muted voice. “My name is Seamus, though known to many as Finn. A migrant of the crossroads several years past, but pay it no heed.” He beamed, betraying the tiredness in his eyes. “Worry not of matters, I will guide you from this place by dawn. Here, take these, I'll not have the shame of a bare larder upon my conscience.” Resting in the palm of his hand were the three dice still; small carvings of wood that had obviously been used ever since they were born from the log. He offered them to her as a plaything while he delved through the open pack for an optimistic viand, hoping that there was some greater luxury within it than oatcakes and coca leaves.

Gadrai saw the dice offered as a gift, and he swung out from a tree, and landed close to Bel. He pulled an arrow, and placed it on the string, though he did not notch the arrow, or pull it back - He was quite literally the dividing line between lax and hostile. He looked to Bel, and with a slightly pained tone, he spoke. "What is the reason of this man?" His question hid a different question as well.

Staring intently at the flames which twisted in front of her, she began to understand why humans were so keen on it, as the light it gave off was warm and comforting, like being wrapped in in a warm bed of leaves for the winter. Though she was still very much afraid of it, as she had seen the damage it had done to her forest over the years, she moved ever so slightly towards it.
As she began to drift off, the warmth making her quite sleepy, her mind was awoken as the human spoke and offered a pair of strange things to her. She did not reply to him, simply because again she had no way of replying. What was she to say? That she was terrified of him or not terrified? Neither was true. She was in the middle, neither afraid nor relaxed, though the fire did somewhat help her nerves ever so slightly. So, instead of replying, she stared at the two small square objects in his hand. She had never seen something like them, did all humans carry these around? It sparked curiosity in her, to learn about these objects, and just as she was about to reach for one for a closer look, she was surprised by the blur of motion she saw from the corner of her eye.
Turning her head, and seeing what was happening, she jumped to her feet, which she did a bit quickly as she stumbled somewhat. Once she regained herself, she stared at Gadrai, her face muddled with confusion about his actions. When he spoke, she couldn't understand why he sounded so....was sad the right word? Replying, though it took a few moments as she tried to change her tongue back into elvish.
"What are you talking about, Gadrai? I don't want bloodshed of a harmless human on this grass...please put away your arrow." She said the end of it strongly, her role stepping in over her emotions. She had to protect the innocent, and so, spread her arms out as wide as she could, protecting the human. Though this wasn't very effective, as because she was so petite, she could only protect this man to as far as his chest. She didn't understand why he was behaving like this, since she was pretty naive.
[[ trololol, u mad Gadrai? ]]

Gadrai was going to disobey, but the sense he was going to disobey with was going to surprise all. "Leaf and Star guide the lost, misguided and forsaken..." He readied his other hand, notching and firing the arrow through his own foot - boot and all. His face wrenched in pain. "...To the Wood, I belong no more." His eyes teared up as he looked away. He threw his bow away as well.
(( He be... ...ragequittin'. Also, I want Bel specifically to react here, please. ))

As she saw his motion, she closed her eyes and turned her face to the side. But when she heard the bow being let go yet no pain was hitting her and she didn't hear the human yelling, her eyes opened once more, only to see that he had shot the arrow though his own foot. Even from where she stood, she could see the pain he was going through. Though he looked away, she saw the split second where the tears lingered. This made her heart clench in an painful way and her arms fell to her sides. Did what she just do was wrong? Why was he upset? Why did making him upset hurt her? What the heck was going on? These ran through her mind and were left unanswered, but she did have an idea on how to react to this.
Taking long strides over to him, she didn't stop to look at him but instead threw her arms around him. Her body began to shake and clenching onto him, she said in a soft voice.
"You idiot....don't say things that aren't true. These woods are your home." Her throat began to close up as she glanced down at the arrow which remained in his foot. In a voice that was strained and confused, she said, burying her face in his shoulder after.
"Why did you do that Gadrai? Why....why...."

Turning from the pack immediately, Finn's complexion drained as he found himself faced with an arrow ready to be drawn. The elf wielding it appeared aggrieved by the both of them, and Seamus would have been convinced that he was there on his behalf, but for the next moment in which this stranger spoke. He addressed the vernacular to her, to the child. The same girl that stood before him so nobly in defence. Finn only wished he knew their language, the same which they now raised between one another; for only the common tongue had ever chimed in his western ears. At its beginning he had stood up with alarm, but presently he wished he could do something more than stare awkwardly. That was, until the man forced the arrow, and Seamus realised what kind of danger he was helpless to prevent. About to reach for his medallion, there was a pause of horror into which the newcomer fired his weapon downwards, crippling himself in excruciating pain.
“Maker's soul...what madness is this?” Finn gasped, taking several steps aback. He had complete disregard for whether it was understood or otherwise, but he could do little else.

Gadrai, unable to look Bel to the eye, responded. His voice held a very hurt note - and not the raspy, pained voice, but the nasal-sounding sort. "I know not what the man spoke, and... ...from seeing him give you diezzo, I knew he meant no harm to you... ...When I asked "What is the reason of this man", I asked for why he was here... ...Asked for why he would come to you under the sign of peace... My arrow would not fire until the moment he proved himself hostile, and from not knowing anything, I considered it only possible... ...hence why I drew an arrow without notching it... ...The moment... His voice shook a little at this point. "...you tried to protect him... ...you... ...you rejected my desire... ...to understand... ...one who does not understand..." He shook with sobbing.
The saying that the Elves gave to the Humans was "One who does not understand does not belong". He didn't understand Bel, whom was the emissary of the Wood. Gadrai's thoughts were descending, and it seemed like Bel was the only solution that he'd survive through. If the human decided to help him, he'd feel disloyal, and would refuse to leave the wood. If Bel rejected Gadrai, Gadrai would do to himself similar to what caused his exile from the Elven Wood.
(( diezzo is dice in Elvish, but the human might recognizre the term, since it kinda does sound similar. Also, I'm not sure if I revealed it yet, but... ...Gadrai killed his sister accidentally, and that's what got him exiled. Bank-shot kills can be accidental. )) (( Again, Bel/boomdeboom should respond first, please. Sorry to throw you side, Jules. /= ))

As she listened to his reply, she knew that was she had caused Gadrai to shoot himself. She had completely misunderstood him, since she had assumed that he was about to shoot the human for whatever reason. She was an idiot and had caused him to do something so painful and also to make him this upset. The guilt that had come onto her shoulders was very heavy and was causing tears to arise in her eyes as she gave a reply, keeping her voice as clear as possible as she lifted her head.
"Gadrai....I'm sorry...I-....I misunderstood what you were doing...I assumed you were going to shoot the human....I didn't kno...w. I'm sorry...this human..." She paused and turned her face towards the man, who must have been very confused as they spoke in this language. She did feel pity, since she could only guess what he thought of this strange scene. Staring at the man for a few moments, she then continued her reply.
"This man is a traveller, Gadrai. I assumed he handed me those object as an offering of some sort....that is why I protected him. To whomever steps in this forest, as long as they present no threat to my life, I must protect them against any danger. That's why I did that....I was not rejecting you Gadrai, I would never do that." Retracting one hand that was around him, she lifted it and placed in on the left side of his face, and with a apologetic smile, she said, the tears still lingering in her eyes.
"I misunderstood Gadrai...I should have been done something a lot more logical....I should have thought what you said through. Some goddess I am indeed...forgive me Gadrai..." Taking a few moments as she changed her mindset back to the common language, she turned back towards the human and said.
"I apologize, son of adam, we must be confusing you with our language..."
[[ What a fail Bel, what a fail. Well, technically my fail but I'll just blame it all on Bel for making him shoot his foot. Yup, that works (>
I have a feeling you mentioned that before, but that might have been from some other roleplay I was doing a while ago, idk. ]]

Gadrai didn't know that Bel was charged with such a duty. "You are charged... ...to tend to the well-being of all whom are within? Then..." It didn't take long for him to fix the problem, as he snapped the arrow, and yanked his foot up, a fair bit of blood dripping out. He pulled his boot and sock off, and tied his sock around the two wounds, before putting his boot back on. He was going to really tough it out, though he'd need a week to recover if he was going to walk on the foot. "The fault is mine, Bel... ...and I must apologize..." He bowed to both Bel, and the traveler. "Guest of the Wood, I offer my apologies for the drama... ...I will wander again with you two." He limped over, and got his bow - not much slower than his walk.
(( And all's good again. >.>; ))

The child was correct. Finn's participation in the matter had left him a great deal more anxious than he had anticipated, while misgivings for the elf, whose words were still so very unfamiliar to him, made his heart race. Seamus nodded at the gesture of acknowledgement however, and bowed in return, as was the regular custom. “My greetings to you, sir” he smiled, “I pray we are all brethren at last.” While he knew his own dialect would be just as indistinguishable, it was hoped that the tone would suffice enough for the moment's civilities. He recalled humbly how his schooling had been heuristic at best, centred around practicality for personal gain. In the real world however, gambling was neither a woodsman, nor the beacon by which to tempt Valears' culture. Finn combed a hand between the mane of his own coarse hair, and slumped against the log with an audible sigh of relief. Finding no further comment, he began to slowly reload the pack with what had been emptied from it. [Thx! I'm 23 now, amagad ]

As she watched his movement as he snapped the arrow, she quickly looked away as she took a step back. Blood had always unsettled her. As he spoke, she turned to face him and was quite surprised to see him bow, it made her giggle softly but she put her hand over her mouth to try and hide it. Oh how she laughed at the most inappropriate times.
Since the air had become clear once more, she made her way back to the fire since the temperature had dropped quite a bit as the darkness began to set in and at the time, for the first time in her life, the fire looked comforting. So, still keeping a good distance away, she knelt back down on the ground and let the warmth seep into her skin. It was about time she would have to change into her winter clothing.
As she began to nod off, to try and keep up the conversation and not look so helpless, she said, though it was clear from her voice that she was tired.
"Son of Adam....why does your kind trust these flames?" It was an odd question, but it was the only one that was in her head.
[[ And again, I feel like a young child among all these old people OTL ]]

She questioned him over fire as if it were an object never before held in reverence. Time and again the problem was exacerbated that although they shared human faces, it did not define them as kin. Yet now, Seamus was perhaps reaching a point of acceptance. An understanding that it was not necessary to be the same. He stopped in his work, relishing the bloom of light, and gave a familiar grin. “My dear, it is the source of us all. The shelter we seek when weary, the warmth and the blaze that, both wild and tamed, brings food to our mouths. We trust it because it is loyal, and shows us the purest meaning of respect. For you see, it is a wise man that can sustain his family, but a poor one to let such a beast loose over all you hold dear. Look how it beckons us to bask by its side. A grave night this would be without it.”
He rattled the dice leisurely in his palm, to stop the effect of slumber around his anchoring eyes. They were doted over without even his awareness. His nails would gouge the dirt from its smallest indentation, and it was not the effect of sanding that their surface appeared burnished to a gloss. The three of them were his obsession, whether he realised it or otherwise. A medicine that his subconscious craved. Moving his feet closer to the fire's border, he registered aloud “Skies above, how discourteous I have been. Would you wish to borrow my coat?”

"Mmm....but, aren't you afraid of this? These flames....they could kill you....burn your skin and everything around you..." Grabbing a handful of grass by her side, which had gone crisp from the cold night, she threw it into the flames. As soon as the grass touched the fire, it burned. She knew that if she were to step in it, she too would become like those blades of grass, although it would take longer and would be extremely more painful. The thought made her uneasy, but thankfully his outburst made her forget it.
"Your....coat?" Blinking, confused about his offer, she was unsure to how she should reply. Should she accept his article of clothing, or decline? Bringing her knees up to her chest, she cupped her face in her hands as her head tilted. After a few moments of thinking, she said.
"I'm not sure..." Though goosebumps were crawling up her arms and down her legs, she was so used to it that she did not even realize she was cold, and so like her reply stated, she didn't know whether to take his coat or not.

Gadrai only heard the language that was foreign to him, and he trusted Bel, so he simply disregarded the foreign language. He was moderately warm still, despite not being close to the fire, and he took a seat, opting to rest his still-punctured foot. The flicker of fire still allowed him to be seen, but there was a little distance between him, and here Bel and Finn were seated. He stared at the hole in his boot, still feeling a bit guilty about jumping the gun earlier. Perhaps this is the payback for acting as rash as I did... His stare gained the guilt that sat behind it. He sighed, with a depressed tone.
