Samuel clenched his teeth with every step. He looked over at her as she spoke, trying to study her expression. He wondered what she was going to say, trying to guess a little too.

"Look...I'm sorry about this, well I mean...just forget I said that." He sighed, pushing open the door.

[laraine]

" No you didn't say anything wrong. I just...I'm still shocked you fought with me I guess...its hard to believe sometimes that there are still people out there...that care..even if I am half demon.."
She smiled under her hood as she walked up the stairs.

He laughed briefly under his breath. "Yeh.. I know what you mean." He sighed, walking towards the stairs. "I guess you'll be wanting to sleep." He said, turning to her. "I'll be down here if you need me."

"You planning on drinking still? I feel bad about you not having a place to sleep. You really should be the one taking the bed what with all you have been through." She sighed, but smiled softly. "You really are too nice of a guy.."

"It's hardly like you haven't been through the same thing either. No, I'm going to rest down here." He replied, smiling back. "I'll leave you to rest now, Miss Raine." He gave her a breif bow and turned to a long sofa that sat infront of the fire.

"Thank you Samuel." Raine started to walk up the stairs to the room, still feeling guilty about leaving him behind. But she knew he had to work this out himself, otherwise he would only shy away from her more. She felt better about having a companion again. It had been so long since she had someone. It was hard to accept him with the dangers around her. She was afraid he would become distant and leave her, just like everyone else.

"You freak." "You know what will happen when you turn 21 Laraine." "Die halfling." "You are cursed." "You killed him!" "Wouldn't it be better if you just died?" "You will kill everyone you come in contact with."

Raine froze at the door knob, tears slid down her face. The memories were cascading through her mind. "No....get out...get out.." She threw open the door and shut it, leaning against the door and letting the past take over.

He nodded, slowly sitting down. His whole body shoke with pain. As soon as he heard a door shut, he bent forwards, skrewing his eyes shut. His chest felt as if it would explode, everytime his heart beat his rib cage seemed to burn.

He lifted up the back of his shirt, examining the large, purple bruise that spread across his back. He sighed and slumped back onto the sofa, cursing as his back hit the edge.

That entire night, Raine spent just trying to cope with her past and accepting the help of Samuel, who was now. She clenched her fists and swore she wouldn't let him die like Danny, like her father...She wouldn't.

When the morning finally arrived, she put on her best face and walked downstairs to find Samuel and get something to eat. She walked down the stairs carefully. "Samuel?"

He spent the duration of the night staring into the flames of the log fire though droppee into a light sleep. He could hear his name though it sounded distant. Slowly, he sat up, cursing as the pain seered through his side.

"Morning." He smiled, pushing his hair back. He tried to hide the pain by smiling but he knew she could see through it.

Raine could see the pain within his eyes and walked over to him, touching his back gently, waiting for the reaction of pain which she knew would show. "Are you all right?" She asked.

He winced as her hand touched his back. "I'm fine. Just bruises." He replie, hoping to reassure her. He stood slowly. Now his legs were tired, they didn't hurt when he moved.

Raine frowned and sighed. "At least let me help with your bruises. I know some salves that could help the pain." She smirked. "You don't want to be wounded badly next time we meet my family right? That is...if you still want to be with me." She shrugged. It would be better for him if he left. But Raine selfishly didn't want to be alone anymore.

Samuel gave her a faint smile, nodding a little. "The least I can do for paying you back for the salves is acompaning you." He said, streching as much as he dared. "And your help would be most appreciated." He added.

Raine smiled gently and took his hand. "Lets go back up to the room so I can apply the salve. I doubt you can reach behind your back." She led him upstairs towards her room and entered slowly. "All right lie down and take off your shirt please."

He followed her upstairs and removed his shirt. He walked towards the bed. "Thanks for this. " He said, laying down. "For the help."
